Ive been thinking about maybe getting a van over 3.5t

We've had a few new volunteer drivers in the past couple of years who had let their higher entitlements go at 70, it was quite easy to get them reinstated, exactly the same as I had to do to retain mine - just take a medical and apply to have them put back on.

You need forms D2 & D4 (from a post office) and have to apply by post - it can't be done online.

Only one thing - whereas I could carry on driving whilst I waited for my licence as I was renewing, if getting them added back on you can't drive the larger vehicles until you get the new licence back. But I think mine only took about a week.

But I let my entitlement go at 70, I just turned 75 on Sunday, and wondered if it was a chore or not to get it back?
You need to pass the medical, which will cost £50 to £60.

You have to post a paper application. Can't do it online.

Apart from that, it's no more of a chore than renewing the road tax.

When we changed vans last year I wondered about one over 3.5. Phill the Cat does all the van driving, because I've lost my nerve, but will drive in an emergency.
I thought the medicals etc would make it too much of a faff (Phill was 70 yesterday), and because I'm a wimp, we stuck to 3.5 and he let the entitlement lapse.
We don't need a bedroom for the dogs anyway.
