So not so much a motorhome question more a Fiat Ducato ? At the Rye meet I was moving my van but could not find my keys so I used Bills keys and the van just would not start after the advice of my neighbouring van it seems our spare key is just a door key I did find my key so all is well but it brought home to us that we need to get another key that is coded to the van so do I go to aFiat dealer or is it not that specialised any advice would be helpful.

Depends where you are I guess. I lost a "programmed" key for my Saab and a small independent locksmith in Canterbury, Kent, was not only able to laser cut a new one, but also programme it to the car. That cost me about £20 instead of at least £200 at a dealer.
So moral is - search Google for a Locksmith who does car keys near you!

Yes I think I may have to bite the bullet and book it into the Fiat dealer and get the dodgy central locking sorted at the same time.

I think £200 for a programmed Key from a Dealership is cheap, I know a chap that had a VW Golf key from a VW Dealership cost him £800 programmed to his car ,
as said there are places that do Spare Keys & Program them for a lot less than a Dealer.

I lost mine for the selfbuild, they were insured but I had to go to the dealer for programming, I still had the none fob key so could drive it.

Now there are more coders out there so have a ring round.

Annie there a good chance a decent mobile locksmith can come to you provide any tune in a key for you I have a guy in edin that does it but it's to far for you but they are national if you Google
also cheaper than main dealer

Have you plans to go to Stratford to the overland show next Month? If so, there is most likely to be a chap on a stand that cuts and programs van keys. I can't remember the guys name off-hand, but he does a lot of the shows and most of the VW Festivals I used to go to. He did me a new Programmed Flip-Remote for my VW T5 while at one of the shows, but I remember he had to have access to the vehicle to finish the programming.

When I saw him at Stratford in 2021, I asked him if he did Ducato keys and he did (I wanted another key with the remote buttons).
I never got round to getting it done, but I have a recollection he would have to go to the van again to link it in? (Might be always the case, might be due to the kit he has?)

I think they have to be linked to the body control module or the ECU

No I don’t go to the big motorhome shows went to one back in the 80s/90s never again, I am just going to book into Fiat as the central locking needs looking at so will get that sorted too.

someone else recently had a CL issue. Turned out to be a fuse that visually looked good but after replacing it, problem fixed. (although it does seem slow to respond to the 'lock' button?). Might be worth changing the fuse (it is one of the ones in the dash fusebox) just in case?

Changed the CL battery CR2032 on mine and worked much quicker! Also cleaned and PTFE sprayed the Hab Door Lock mechanism to overcome the occasional 'reluctance' for the lock to work when the CL Fob was used. There was a fair amount of muck and grime that came out, courtesy of the legendary 'ear pugglers' aka cotton wool buds [designed or 'your important little places', so must include the Door Lock ...] (y)

Going to the dealer will cost a lot more. They will code a new key to the ECU.

You might well find that the Timpson / locksmith approach of cloning the existing key is as good and much cheaper.

Either way, do it! If you lose your one working key you're facing a huge hassle and cost. Don't go there!
