LPG gas

I have an underslung tank with external filler.

The beauty of this system is that I can top it up before a trip so I know that I have sufficient gas for the whole holiday, without the need for changing bottles if one runs out in the middle of the night.

I have the same and went two months in Spain this year and did not go near a gas filling point all the time. Fill up before leaving then I know I have not got any of that dodgy gas from southern Spain.

We have a similar tank on our Hymer and initially had problems finding filling stations who still supplied. All the BP garages stopped stocking. Taking more notes now and have found enough in Scotland to get by with some planning ahead. Do you have a working guage on your tank? Ours is unreadable, any suggestions where to have it serviced and replace gauge?

I've two 11kg Gaslow bottles and find them invaluable in comparison to my previous Calorcrap bottles. Yes, I had a bit of a problem in Italy a few years ago, but as we were in and out quite quickly it didn't become a problem. France was great, at a Mr. Leclerc the attendant allowed me to reverse in against the flow of traffic to get to the pump that was on the wrong side for me because of a low ceiling.

Hi Growlie,

I have a digital gauge mounted on the dashboard on mine. This was fitted by Autogas in Thirsk when they fitted the system. It's handy to know how much gas you have in the tank whilst driving in case you pass a garage which stocks it. I also fitted an external BBQ point, and I can actually backfill my LPG tank through this from an ordinary bottle in an emergency!

I would never go back to exchangeable bottles.
It is just so convenient to top up on the way to a Meet, and know that you wont run out.
With an external filler, it only takes seconds because you dont even have to open the cupboard door.
Once the system was fitted, it made the cost of camping very affordable.

Have only checked a couple of LPG sites but found Shell in Musselburgh at about £0.67ppl. Morrisons in Hamilton at £0.52ppl.
How does this compare with the rest of the country?

Enjoy, from Pauline and Roy.
There’s a app for lpg called filllpg google it Roy gives stations near and afar and costs

Personally I would have both a refillable and an exchangeable as we found that we were having to drive miles out of our way to find lpg but we were using it for the engine too .
For normal motorhome users who don't go off grid or use the van frequently and only use the van on camping sites ,the only benefit is not having to lift bottles as you would never recover the initial outlay.
Also bear in mind that lpg is actually disappearing from forecourts and we ended up in some industrial estates to find it !

Hang on don't you open your door and turn your gas bottles off before filling I was advised that you have to turn them off.

Most people will have their gas turned off for traveling but then you can't boil the kettle while driving :Loudly_Crying:
And yes you are supposed to have the bottle valve shut for filling according to the suppliers .

Well actually you don't have to if you have something like secumotion from truma !
Also some pigtails are designed to be used when traveling
Ask Phil what you have lol

Probably not knowing you but I am new to all these mod cons lol

I agree it’s a lot cheaper, we have the Gaslow system it’s now on it’s 3rd Motorhome.

When we looked at having a refillable system on our m/h. we were aghast at the rip off prices companies were charging. That is until we discovered Avon Autogas,Bristol.

Full system fitted included everything needed= £360! Superb. Cant fault the service or the goods supplied. We are very happy mohomers indeed. Mr Google will give you all the answers you need.
