it's not more Regs for driving in Europe; the German equivalent of the Crit'Air vignette was already in existence, and at least it is a consistent pan-Germany system! Unlike the nonsense in UK where every Local Authority makes its own Rules {£12.50 per diem for London ULEZ; Newcastle Motorhomes exempt; Glasgow Motorhomes earlier than Euro 6 prohibited, but 2 strokes and 50 year old+ Fairground Lorries permitted} to give but 3 examples of the crass stupidity and inconsistency

Quite right @marchie I have been saying for years that our system is bonkers. The reason we do it this way is so that each mayor can boost his income by expanding his workforce, and thus he has greater responsibilities so he can pay himself more. He can also enhance his kingdom's income by introducing cameras and zones. Apparently Bristol gains £120,000 every day from fines. Furthermore, the constant implication from the Government that this tiny island can influence world wide pollution is very annoying. Look at the missiles being thrown around in Ukraine, I doubt very much that their exhausts are breathable. Rocket fuel is about the most polluting thing there is. I believe that a Honda 90 step-through moped that does 180mpg has to pay the London emissions charge. This is because of their stupid method of measuring pollution. Instead of finding out how much emissions they produce per mile travelled, they stick an analyser in the exhaust pipe. A tiny amount of non compliant exhaust is thus deemed to be more dangerous than a huge amount of compliant exhaust which actually produces far more pollutants on the same journey.
I've better shuttup before I start saying that in Germany last year we paid €9 for a months travel on all trains, buses and trams. (excluding the intercity express trains - you can still travel the whole country but not on the express trains) It is called surprisingly "The nine Euro Ticket" available from tourist information centres, bus and train stations. Not just for tourists, anyone. In the whole Dunkirk 'county' they have had free bus travel 24hrs a day since 2017. How about those ideas for reducing pollution?

I used the nine Euro ticket extensively last summer. Fantastic scheme. Nearly missed my last train back to the van after an alcohol infusion in Dusseldorf on the Satday neet.

Sadly that was a one off scheme for 2022 and is no longer valid. Its now a "Deutschlandticket" and is €49 per month.

Boooo. Still, I suppose it is brilliant for hikers and bikers. Not much use for us, unless you are doing a strange type of holiday.

You should only pay about €6 for the environment stickers for France and Germany. There are lots of web sites where they charge you quite a few drinking vouchers for doing it yourself. Here is the official cheapest www:
did it through these guys because they do lots of other things & after all its only money you pay what you can afford . cheyenne

As above it is cheaper to get your stickers direct from the government web sites, received ours with in two weeks, both from the German Government and the French Government, the Crit'Air vignette is direct from : https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/ Always make sure the the site is genuine, as printed on the French site (You are guaranteed to be on the official website by the presence of the logo of the ministry and the address of the site ending in .gouv.fr. ) bon voyage

Any requirements in Netherlands or Belgium do you know?
Just thinking it is likely you go through one or both of these countries when using either Ferry or Tunnel and going to Germany.

There is an LEZ in Antwerp. You have to register online before you enter-free if your vehicle complies. 35 euro per day paid in advance if not. I went in 2019 and my 2012 Euro5 Ducato complied back then. If you go to a gig or event in the city you get free return trip on public transport.

According to their website it is £14.75? (either way, under €6 direct).

Wow! Just looked at the French option on that site... £23.99!
But at least they make in clear they are ripping you off
"This product contains 1 × Certificat qualité de l'air (£4.00) and 1×Handling Fee Vignette Crit'Air (£16.00)"
(Direct cost - £4.13 inc postage)

Looks like a good business though? get the swiss one and pay a £35 handling fee on a product that is under £10;

The Austrian one seems acceptable if in a rush? only a £5 handling fee and the 10-day vignette costs £10 and you get via email. But the rest are OTT fees IMO.

We got our French one and German one direct from the official websites. Senseless paying more unless there is an additional service provided. In both cases the stickers arrived within days and both were very cheap as mentioned.

The other stupid thing about it is that you have to register separately for them. It's OK saying MHs are exempt but only if you tell them otherwise they are not.
Why they cannot just have a simple system is beyond me.

Brown envelopes play a part, I suspect. Not only are Showmen's Guild vehicles exempt [but are amongst the highest polluters], but 'Showman/woman' is now a recognised ethnicity across UK ...

Lack of logic/ lack of probity/lack of common sense

You know .... given that situation does exist, THAT is where a company like vignette.co.uk or whatever it is COULD give genuine added value by providing an automatic "whole of UK" registration so an owner is not caught out by straying into zones without realising they exist.
