We spent most of yesterday ringing around getting quotes..
2021 vline valued 65k .2 drivers 15k miles.
Full European breakdown..
Most could only offer max 12 k miles which is not enough as we use van loads..in last 12 weeks we have driven 5250 miles.

Best deal safeguard our own insurance company .£1027.00

If looking for an insurance quote, don't overlook windscreen cover, specially for an A-class.
A big windscreen can easily cost £2500 to £3500, or double that if there are holes for the wipers to go through.
Some policies put a limit on what they will pay for a windscreen.

Just received my renewal quote from Caravanguard. This year £675, last year £541. This includes NCD protection, Legal cover and UK/Europe breakdown/recovery.
Tried Ripe which came in at £589 for the same cover. That's very tempting, of course, but note they use ERS for the breakdown cover whom I hadn't heard of before. I looked them up on the interweb and they seem quite kosher but I couldn't see any reviews from those who had actually used their service. The Trustpilot reviews for ERS are good but just refer to their general insurance business.

Have any of you lovely forumites had experience of ERS recovery?

(BTW The EU cover is 60 days per trip and 90 days max/yr. Won't suit everyone but fine for us.)

What weight is your motorhome and how many travel in it? they have a recovery limit of two people and 3.5t GVW.

I saw that too. Doesn't affect us but is it an indicator that they will be really picky when or if they are actually needed?

Cynical, moi?

The weight limit is pretty typical but max of two people? not seen that limitation. wonder if they allow any pets?
FWIW, after checking all the options, I am sticking with the AA via Nationwide FlexPlus as I need cover for over 3.5t. I could have gone for the breakdown cover from the Insurance Company but would then need another policy for the car as Breakdown via Insurance is almost certainly only for the vehicle being insured.

If you are ok with a 3.5t limit, then a general independant policy direct from AA, RAC, etc, is maybe the best value if you have more than one vehicle you need breakdown cover for?

I agree with you. I do review all the options every year - a tedious but necessary exercise.

I have just renewed my insurance. I use LV multicar, my 2018 motorhome was just £346
I asked for an LV quote in 2023 for the M/Home wand was told by the Agent that the policy would only cover the vehicle bodywork and chassis - i.e. if the M/Home was written off, there would be no payout for the habitation fittings, hence the low premium. Might be worth checking the T&Cs of your policy!

T&C's can be critical.
I found out after I made a claim that if my van (a mobile workshop, not a camper in this case) was stolen INSIDE my workshop, it would NOT have been covered for theft, but OUTSIDE (and less safe surely?), it WOULD have been. Very odd. And I used to leave it in the workshop most nights!!
I was told this after I had my car stolen from INSIDE the workshop, and it was covered (same policy, note). And not only was it covered for a payout, it was paid out effectively as contents, so I didn't have a motor theft claim needed to be declared on renewal either (I found this out when I got my renewal quote and I had a years NCD added to the policy despite making a claim for my car, a customers car, and thousands of pounds of tools stolen - all paid out within a fortnight of the thefts. I did ask them if it was a mistake on the NCD and they said no).
So the insurance company (AXA) had no problem paying out the claims at all, but had strict T&C's that you could easily have fallen foul of. Showed me the importance of reading the small print :)

Spent a jolly couple of hours this morning obtaining more quotes, some of which were astronomical.
Then called Caravanguard and updated a couple of details including reduction of mileage estimate whilst still leaving me a generous buffer.
Upshot is that they are now only £30 more than Ripe so have decided to stick with the devil I know.

Phew, sorted for another year and now........relax.

This year's renewal with AIB had increased by £40 to £285. So I went with Ripe at £224 and should get 10% cashback taking it to under £202 which is the cheapest in the last 6 years. :)

We went with caravan and motorhome club as comfort and caravan guard wanted over 2.5k 😳. So with the annual membership we saved just under £2k
My experience of Devitts, the brokers who pretend to be the C&M Club, was so spectacularly bad that if they were the only alternative to paying £2000 extra, I'd pay it. But the reality is that they are brokers, not insurers. The same policies are available through other brokers, without adding the cost of the bung paid to the club.

I too found Devitts to be awful.
