Thanks. Here's one I prepared earlier. From the beginning of the 20th century or earlier (although I expect most will think of a more recent version!):
FWIW, I didn't even know 'Endless Tears' was a thing until Edina's post and, having googled, I'm still not sure whether that's a song or a band! Think more Country ...
Sorry, nope ... but that's some nice Newgrass! This song's more traditional, originally American folk that's enjoyed resurgence after featuring in a movie that has most of the classic Bluegrass memes: jail, trains, pickups, etc ...
I mean 20th century. First written record is in a publication from 1913 by fiddler Dick Burnett under the title "Farewell Song". Emery Arthur recorded it under its current title in 1928. However, it was originally an old American folk song that pre-deated Burnett's publication. Brother, you'll kick yourself when you find out the answer, which I'll post tonight if no-one gets it!
Pudsey got there first. Dan Tyminski (of Union Station) was the singing voice of George Clooney in that film. However, I've been listening to Home Free's cover. Superb IMO...
