It does the whole job Colin... you just have to top and tail the pineapple and then start winding. The skin comes off in one piece, the core ends up in the middle of the gizmo, the flesh sits on the gizmo, cut around into spiral 'slices', then you can use the cutter bit to run down and cut the whole lot into chunks. I usually dispense with the last bit and just run a knife down the spirals because the cutter makes the chunks too big for me. I honestly think if I had to live without this, I'd buy pre-cut pineapple and spend heaps more money into the bargain. I know this because I don't carry one on the van
