Noooooooooooo not useless! I love my pineapple gizmo to bits.

I have fresh fruit, including pineapple, on my brekkie every day and that gizmo saves me so much slicing and dicing time - and mess - it's just incredible.

I stand corrected, Jennie. I've always used a sharp knife. Does this thing take off the outside of the pineapple or do you have to do that bit prior to introducing the pineapple to the gizmo? It looks as if it only tackles the core and flesh, but I've never seen one in action.

Colin ???

It does the whole job Colin... you just have to top and tail the pineapple and then start winding. The skin comes off in one piece, the core ends up in the middle of the gizmo, the flesh sits on the gizmo, cut around into spiral 'slices', then you can use the cutter bit to run down and cut the whole lot into chunks. I usually dispense with the last bit and just run a knife down the spirals because the cutter makes the chunks too big for me. I honestly think if I had to live without this, I'd buy pre-cut pineapple and spend heaps more money into the bargain. I know this because I don't carry one on the van

Thanks Jennie. Clearly NOT a Purposeless Product. Though I'll stick with a knife for just the few pineapples I prepare per year!

Two pineapples per WEEK! That's a lot of pineapple to prepare for breakfast, Jennie. No wonder you have this gizmo!

We all buy them at one time or another. I'm not necessarily meaning badly designed products that are intended to solve a particular problem but don't such as a grease remover that doesn't.
I'm thinking of products that are marketed to solve a problem that doesn't exist, such as dishwasher cleaner. Does someone out there in a marketing department really think we believe that the WizzKleen dishwasher tablets we bought from them last week magically hit and clean the knifes, forks and saucers but magically miss and leave filthy the insides of the dishwasher? Rather perhaps we shouldn't trust their WizzKleen tablets?

So what other products are out there that don't have a problem to solve?
Moho related products would be special but any area great.

Colin ???

I saw two separate products last yer - one for cleaning the limescale from the inside of a dishwasher and the second for cleaning the limescale from the inside of a washing machine ????? Didn't know limescale metamorphisised itself into a different structure in different machines......... but someone will buy both no doubt

This is a Purposeless Product.
Do you know what it is intended for?
The purpose for which it was designed will be posted tomorrow afternoon.
Unless, of course, some clever poster comes up with the answer beforehand!

Colin ???

is it a hard boiled egg slicer ?

It's amazing just what we buy without really thinking it through, Delicagirl. We've all bought stuff and then pretty much abandoned it. Keep looking and please post any Purposeless Products you find.

It is a slicer, but not for eggs. Have a look at post #324, Delicagirl. All will be revealed!

Colin ???

Any ideas?

Spaghetti or other pasta lifter Colin?

Most unlike you to make an error, teejay. Are you lulling me into a false sense of security?

Colin ???

No, not leading up the garden path here. I knew it wouldn't be that easy really. The thin pin through the business end is intriguing! I cant fathom that piece out at all.The dipped shape of the blades alludes to it being dipped into liquid to retrieve the food I think. The dull edged serrations on one side and the elongated holes on the other led me up the spaghetti path! What on earth are the two elliptical holes in the handles for I wonder? If its not a lifter it surely is a scraper of sorts!?

I'm impressed with your powers of analysis, tee jay. You're actually doing really well. Though currently wrong!
It is intended to cut something.

On a different topic, I notice that your avatar has changed (again?). A thread asking for it's origin or are we to be told?

Its just something I saw on the net the other day and struck me as funny- a big gun with 'balls' is what it looks like-I suppose it is also a purposeless product! I'll ponder some more on your latest offerings intended use.

Meanwhile....here is one for you to contemplate..... tofu-cutter-by-pontifex.jpg and no, its not LEGO.
