Personally I don't class my electric tin opener as a purposeless product, would never use an ordinary one at home, have used one for 20 years plus. Now an electric carving knife, thats a useless bit of kit, and handheld mixers, never had much success with either. Meat thermometers too, if you cook it for the recommended time/temp its easy enough to check if its cooked without one, meat basters too, just use a spoon or ladle. Geez you've got me started now.

I'm very pleased to have helped, yorkieowl! We all buy those daft gadgets, and for me, especially kitchen junk. The must-have device seems to be a great idea at the time and then almost instantly becomes clutter then junk collecting dust.

Anything not kitchen related? Go on - get it off your chest!

Google the Ronco Buttoneer Colin.

That will give you a taste. They also did razor combs and other such rubbish.

(Or are you secretly a Ronco hoarder?)

I'll do just that over the weekend, Rob. I really don't have a clue what this is about so I'm desperately hoping that this isn't a wind-up or fake information!

Hi Colin

Yes they are indeed most useful!! Yes mine does the same. I am given to believe that most can tops are actually glued onto the tins and this kind of opener separates the glued top from the tin by leverage. They are freely available. I got my last one from Ebay. If you go on there and search for safety can opener, there are many to choose from-take your pick and enjoy!

Tom.

An update, teejay. I've found exactly what I need on Amazon for about £5.50 so thanks for the guidance. Rather stupidly I must have used the wrong search criteria before.

My Mum had a very strange device intended to be used in the garden for removing weeds. It had a shaft similar to a spade with a 'T' handle at the top. At the bottom end it had three slightly curved prints that could be pushed down into the soil around a weed. Supposedly a quick turn of the handle together with a lifting motion was all that was required to transform the garden into the spitting image of Kew.

Sadly it didn't. Anyone got one?
Any other Purposeless Products in the garden shed?

Bought a dutch hoe that was English. How useless is that?

Ha, ha! I've got a variety of hoes, teejay. The most ingenious is by far and away the Swiss hoe. It works really well but can't imagine taming errant edelweiss with it. So possibly not from Switzerland.

And Colin, one merely has to yodel softly when using it for the true alpine experience! Yodel-aheeyuu!!! Ive tried singing 'I'm a little dutch boy' using mine but it didn't work!

Yes I confess to having had one in the past, I thought it would make weeding easier, no such luck, -useless. Other useless bits are salad spinners, vitamins (just eat a good varied diet), air fresheners, (which I personally don't think work), robot vacuum cleaners - yes I hold my hands up I did buy one to try it:redface:. Some of the floor was very clean the rest untouched!

Motorhomes and caravans !
An old mate of mine really couldn't see the fascination of us going away in them he used to say he had a house for comfort and if away he wanted a hotel so he didn't have to do anything !

Its not the cycle path that is useless-its the idiots on the local council that sanctioned it then put an Armco barrier over it that are. DOH!
