Purposeless Products

I'm getting stove envy here Colin!

Really? I've loads of paraffin and petrol stoves and lamps. The stoves are generally of the Primus type but also by lots of other manufacturers. The lamps are generally of the Tilley type but also a few wick-driven hurricane lamps. All the stoves and lamps are
variations on a theme but
I just can't bear to think of these works of art being flattened and recycled.
Sad but true.

Annie's post of her kitchen Purposeless Products encouraged me to do similar:-

Kitchen gadgets.jpg

A tea strainer, a safety can opener that leaves razor sharp edges on the can and lid, a corer, a cheese slice, a pastry cutter, a butter curler, a zester, an egg pricker, a wine bottle stop that doesn't and a pourer that does, an egg lowerer-into-the-water and a garlic press.
Most of the jobs that these utensils were designed for can be done perfectly well with the list in the 'Essential Kitchen Utensils' thread. The daftest item is the yellow plastic egg lowerer. Please believe me when I say that I didn't buy it!

Anyone else brave enough to follow in Annie's footsteps?

Wouldn't mind one of these :D :D

Colin, dear boy

While I may agree with the purposelessnessness of some of the itemsI think you may have misconstructed the the purpose of some.

The cheese slicer is designed to provide the minimum of crap processed cheese to put on the Brot that some countries eat for breakfest - who who want a thick slice?

Egg pricker - also an egg cup? Pricking an egg releases the pressure which would continue to cook a niceley soft-boile egg.

Wine stopper - it does; not stop wine, but it easily stops fruit flies. I have done research on this and 90% of our guests prefer not having flies in their second glass - the other 10% were driving.:Smiling_Face_with_T

Eyelash curlers........why?

That's a brilliant one, yorkslass! Hair straighteners too?
I anticipate personal 'Adjustment' products and personal hygiene products would be a very productive field for Purposeless Products.

Such as an electric nose and ear hair remover.

Any other ideas?

Colin ???

Morning. How about these eatin' irons for a retired salty old sea dog?............. thPUVJHBTI.jpg S'pose they might be okay with spaghetti dishes!

But they do look a tad ropey to me!

That's both blöödy funny and Purposeless. Thanks for the second big grin of the day, teejay.
The first, of course, was due to the fact that I actually woke up.

Oh, I like those, they remind me of the first cutlery set my daughter had. They had bendy handles to help get food into her mouth, rather than behind her ears, or down her front. Can't remember how effective they were though, it's a long time ago.

did bend a teaspoon once to make it more usable for me as had smashed finger and couldnt hold a spoon without it swivell and dumping contents

They're not purposeless, more like purposeful.I find that a nose and ear hair remover is essential equipment, why is it that as I get older I can't grow any hair on my head and yet on other parts of the body hair seems to grow faster.
