Retirement with 2020 and COVID vision

Our journey takes us onto the Camargue on a very spacious aire with all services and restaurant for (how much?) €11 a night (food not included).

A few days peace after nearly 1000 miles from Portugal and comfortable temp of 21 degrees.
Last time we were down here the temp was up around 38 degrees and we were riding the white horses of the Camargue through the wetlands. Shirl tells me it’s only these Camargue horses that can be called ‘white’. Equestrian people are so snobby.

They use them to coral the bulls through the streets. Not sure we can manage that.

A couple of glorious sunny days relaxing and wandering around the fishing lakes.

Shirl got excited when we saw this handsome chap doing dressage practice.

I mean the horse.

Dozens of Flamingos on the wetlands around here.
Met a chap called Noah and he took me to see his boat. He’s waiting for the spring tides.

What did you do to you van today?
Converted it into mobile stable.
Heading north tomorrow.

Quaint places but not sure if they’re under partial covid rules as everyone wore masks in the streets.

This window fooled both of us.
A quick check round and found a nice car park near the Ponte D’Arc.

Spectacular piece of geology that you can explore in a canoe ( but not today).
Back to the car park and 3 policemen are walking round looking at various cars parked near us. We are sat out having a drink and they come and speak with a french girl in a motorhome next to us and then walk off and depart. She started packing away her table and chairs so I went across and asked what the police wanted. She was told if she stayed overnight she would be ticketed. We already know the french bear a grudge as we’ve just had a speeding ticket from March, on the rush back to Eurotunnel, drop through our door at home. €46 if paid within 30 days rising to €100. We worked out they would probably come back around 5am to give us a ticket so off in search of happy places to stay.

46€>> .....COMBIEN.. !!?
As the French Yorkshiremen might bellow.
Not a bad sum, when spread over all the thrilling days you've spent in that heathen country.
Did you look over that massive canal lock at Beaucare.. ?
Is it still operating ?
Lovely memories of boozy boating holidays along the Canal du Midi.
Get that cruise control set, for a fine, fine-free journey North.

That would have been my preference Paul but surviving in a democracy means the local market won the day. It’s confusing but I think I must have voted for the street market. Who knows as I get older bingo might become appealing 😧😧😧.

Off to stay at the farm theatre at Notre Dame de Secures. Nice aire round the back with all services.

Usually got something musical or other happening but afraid Covid ruins it again as it’s all indoors.
Started to rain with a vengeance, non stop.
Lovely peaceful night even with church bells.

I reckon this steeple was not on the plans.
Off west next for another aire at the side of an airport near Chaspuzac.

All services closed off but worse than that, no planes flying. Failed again but maybe a peaceful night was had anyway.

Must be expecting a lot of horses in the village.
Off west through lentil country.

Called in at Saint Flour to check out the aire and town.

The town is worth a visit but the aire at the moment is a little busy. Motorhomes welcome 🤬.

This nice chap is trying to stop the rain for us.

This chap rebelled when they introduced step tax.

Who’d have guessed these sold bags. I’m looking to see if the cobblers is called bootooterie.
Ever westward for the night

Winter draws on , by the look of it.
Stay safe.
Could be thermal draws on if we don’t keep on lower ground. I realised that the Farm Theatre we stayed at was 3500ft elevation, hence 5 degrees in the morning 🥶. Back down to a sweaty 10 degrees now 🥵.
