We kept my old and very slow Ipad which is sim enabled so has GPS, just for copilot. Don’t use it for anything else now. But still check with a paper map if route unknown.
For using as turn by turn sat nav PB, it needs some way to pick up gps sp either a GPS receiver or SIM card, neither of which were in tabletWhy do you need a SIM? just download it over WiFi and the maps you need, I use in on my Tab4 no SIM.
I loaded it on to. Samsung Tab E we have and never had a use for and that doesn’t work, loaded on my old ipad2 as well and that was the same, they both needed WiFi to sim to get gps fix. May be something for folks to look out for when getting a new tablet if they want to try as sat nav. They do work but lag badly when I tried tethered so unusable day to day as main deviceAh I see, I thought all tablets had a GPS chip, plenty cheap refurbished Tab4s on Ebay (£80 ish), I bought two as I figured they might pack up, second one is still in it's box two years later.
Too late now PB I ended up buying an Akura sat nav lolI also run it on and old Samsung S2 phone with no SIM in it, and it works quite well, screen a bit on the small side, but more than adequate.
