We would like to get into Rouen by train or bus from a aire ? Anyone have experience or advice ?
Thank you

My only experience of going to Rouen by train was a couple of decades ago from a coastal marina. Might help to have some clue as to criteria. For example, are you looking to remain outside the CAZ or is there some other reason for using public transport?

If its any use we stayed at an aire at Val de Scie just outside Dieppe and it was next to a railway station.

The train from Val de Reuil to Rouen takes about 20 minutes and runs every 30 minutes or so. There is an aire in the town but we haven't used it so can't advise on suitability.

We drove via Rouen last week heading for Portugal came out of the tunnel to chaos, road works every where made a wrong turn and found ourselves heading for city centre sat nav screaming at me to make u turns yeah right, finally got on right road for Pont D la Arche where we wanted to get to I don't have the emissions sticker on my van so I do not know where I am with that never saw any signs about the areas anyway. Signs said over 3.5 tonnes should not enter the tunnel but take another route but as we are less than 3.5 tonnes we ignored that, so good luck with the Train. I will get on the payage round Rouen homeward bound for a few junctions for sure has to be worth whatever it costs I think.

We saw that and with four electric points and two motorhome spaces it will have full timers living there oh whoops be busy ;) it’s also a small car park with buses turning around. Thank you though.

No way on earth will I drive into Rouen your story could so easily have turned into the many who crunch their roof in the small tunnels !

We have found an aire free for now at Pont-de-l’Arche short bus ride then the train. River view and small French town behind it. I feel a visit to the backers will be in order ;)

Is there a problem driving into Rouen now ? Used to park on the quayside and walk over the bridge into town . Haven't been for a few years [5?] . Maybe things have changed ?

Pont D Arche is a good aire free now but pay in season it is next to a pleasant Camp Site eeekk which would be cheap enough to stay on if aire full lots of folk also park road side and ignore the Aire and before you cross the River there is a Super U supermarket where we often pull into for diesel and gas fill and have our lunch, got Prawns and fresh bread there this trip and had a good nosh up you could easily park in their Parking overnight too plenty of room,

So we arrived at Pont de lArche mid afternoon only one official space left this morning. We have the French strikes to contend with but from here there is a bus to Val de Ruel train station and Bolt taxis all to Rouen. It’s cold down to Zero degrees last night and a chance of snow ⛄️ today. Ron is horrified after being warmer in Spain at the prospect of walking round Rouen in the cold. I will have to buy a few expensive French beers 🍻 for him ;) we will miss Spanish prices.

We made it there and back bus from Pont de lArche to Val de Ruel €1 each. We waited two hours bloody strikes but did have a lovely baguette and coffee before the train to Rouen at €7 each, ok and a cake !
Rouen is beautiful very French and mediaeval poor Joan of Arc a French heroine we burnt !
We didn’t pay for returns in case a taxi was needed. You could park at motorhome at Val de Ruel easily. The ticket machine had an English option. A very good day and my mission accomplished to get leaflets from the tourist office for family.

Brings back happy memories of our school exchange many years ago! Still the same

Is that Batman, in front of the cathedral? Love the look of Rouen, only stopped once by accident as we got lost (when the bridge was closed) so parked briefly while we worked out how to get through to the other side. Keep saying we should stop properly, the thread has given me confidence. Thanks.

This is our route past Rouen, we follow the Seine ;) Rouen is easy to walk round and view as well. You could also park easily at Val de Ruel station. The aire at Pont de lArche has a very pretty town behind it and a laundrette.
