Storage Frustration!

I remember seeing a gas locker door on an Eriba caravan once and was impressed by how it operated. It came outwards and upwards so maybe something like that would suit, maybe do a search to see if the parts are available for you to adapt yours?

David, viewing attached image, looks like strengthening has been added to box and outrigger areas. One final possible option I can see from the images is to remove box from outriggers, remove the added metal from box and outriggers, new angle iron add to box section, with 2x holes on each angle. 2x holes drilled to each outrigger, which allows box section to attach to at the original position, and instead of 2x HTS bolts, when not towing, add one to bottom hole each side, top hole fit (don't know name) type of securing device you see on trucks to open/close side panels quickly and without keys required, I'm sure you know what I mean. The latter can be removed quickly, allowing box section to drop down and allow you access to rear storage. And if you require bar for towing purposes, top device removed, a HTS bolt added and all bolts torqued up fr towing. Nyloc nuts required of course.

Could you not cut off the brackets for the tow ball and fit removable tow ball .you would need a welder to attach receiver bracket.Screenshot_20230404_093831_eBay.jpg

I have a couple of small exterior lockers in my motorhome, but the only one of any size is at the back - but access is a bit compromised due to the towbar

The whole door has to be removed rather than just lifted up.

I thought I might use that to keep stuff I would rarely need/use (for example Levelling Ramps, spare Thetford Cassette) and use a back box on the Thule Load Carrier for the regular stuff (Chairs, BBQ, etc) for easier access.
So enter the 'Papoose' (a Fiamma Ultrabox)

But when I tried to put stuff in it, like the chairs, the blooming things don't fit :( Bang goes that plan
I fitted the Thule Backup Box 900 to our towbar. It holds our chairs with lots of room to spare.

Below is an image from the Thule website of one fitted to an Audi along with the only image of it on my Auto Trail Tracker RS, taken from a "not great" angle.
