Sudden and temporary loss of power

Typically my ODB2 reader doesn't have Peugeot, Fiat nor Renault listed and under "others" it still can't communicate with the van ( I know how it feels)
I have bought another from fleabay for less than a tenner, so it must be good, right? Anyway, this one lists Peugeot and fiat so will see how that goes.

My new ODB2 reader says "NO CODES" and the MIL light never came on so maybe the egr valve is innocent?
What I have found so far is a very mucky air filter - the van came with a new MOT and a recent full service, which I now don't believe.
I have new air, oil and fuel filters and new oil ready awaiting a nice day...

My hymer base vehicle is a 2004 Renault master. I had a similar problem which took me a while to solve. Mine also cut out for no apparent reason a few times and started almost straight away afterwards with no further problems.
It was down to the immobiliser which is around the ignition barrel. I noticed the red immobiliser light kept flashing when it wouldn't start. I reseated the connector cable and had no trouble since, touch wood.
