NO NO NO not cycling please.
I've been trying to make sense of the gov.uk advice about driving in the EU with the paper licence. https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit The website says you may need an international driving permit in that case for some EU countries, but instead of saying which ones it tells you to contact the relevant embassy. Not exactly helpful.I still have a paper licence, sadly it runs out this year so I have to have a photo card one. Driven all round France, Spain & Portugal with my paper one. They are still valid so perfectly acceptable in Europe.
Yes, best to play safe where the French rozzers are concerned I suppose...or I could offer them a pep-permintJust get the permint.
Traffic Regs fall within the National Competence of each EU Member State, so there can be no EU wide guidance or Regs. It's a matter for each individual Member State.I've been trying to make sense of the gov.uk advice about driving in the EU with the paper licence. https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit The website says you may need an international driving permit in that case for some EU countries, but instead of saying which ones it tells you to contact the relevant embassy. I was going to say last time I went was before Brexit and blame that for now needing an international driving permit for some countries but in view of what Steve says, maybe not! Perhaps I should have had an IDP. Lucky I never got stopped, wasn't it.Traffic Regs fall within the National Competence of each EU Member State, so there can be no EU wide guidance or Regs. It has been the practice of every UK Government since we joined the EU to 'blame Brussels', supported slavishly by the UK media, as a convenient scapegoat. This has resulted in the knowledge of what is within each Member State's National Competence and what is reserved to Brussels being hazy at best
