I always check the tyre rating Jeff I am going from 114/116 rating to 120/121 so got it well covered .
I'd say nothing Merlin you will only invite trouble I feel, I'd ring a different company to your insurer and ask a general question.Yeh, I'd have expected that the tires would only need to be 'rated' correctly and the stipulation of tires needing a specific 'Camper' rating would only be applicable IF it was written into their policy Ts&C's. ??? Jeff's post does make me concerned though. I personally use van tires with a suitable rating, NOT specifically 'camper' grade.....I think I'll email my insurer and get their take on it, interesting for sure.
Remember mine is a coach built motorhome, so I think that is where the rules apply, but a quick phone call just to be on the safe side could save a lot of heart break should the inevitable ever happenYeh, I'd have expected that the tires would only need to be 'rated' correctly and the stipulation of tires needing a specific 'Camper' rating would only be applicable IF it was written into their policy Ts&C's. ??? I get what you're saying Jeff but if your insurance company is giving you information over the phone or by email that ISN'T in the policy documents then that's a massive concern in my eyes.Remember mine is a coach built motorhome, so I think that is where the rules apply, but a quick phone call just to be on the safe side could save a lot of heart break should the inevitable ever happen
You are probably right Merlin, and I don't think it actually mentions types of tyres, but it does say replacement tyres must be as the manufacture's specifications and this is where the can of worms startsI get what you're saying Jeff but if your insurance company is giving you information over the phone or by email that ISN'T in the policy documents then that's a massive concern in my eyes.
It's a massive ball ache I know but have you checked what's written in the actual policy documents?
usually they fit ROunD ones.Would Fiat etc fit MoHO tyres or Van tyres.

Da-Dum, tish.usually they fit ROunD ones.
Just checked MY policy wording and the only reference to tires or tyres is "Damage to tyres (cuts, scuffs, skidding etc) isn't covered by the insurance policy.Just found this interesting article, so like you say Merlin, it could be down to your personal insurance company who make the shout

DO I NEED SPECIALIST CAMPING TYRES FOR MY MOTORHOME?
Going away without checking the tyres on your motorhome could be a recipe for disaster.Pivotal to the smooth handling of your camper, tyres that haven’t been looked after, inspected or tested could bring your holiday crashing down around you.By simply giving your tyres the once over, you’ll...tyremen.co.uk

nope, suitability of tyres is not part of the MOT test for a class 4 vehicle. The MOT check is solely on checking for sufficient tread and any bulges or cracks.I would think that MOT stations would have to flag up any tyres not fit for purpose, perhaps more so for over 3.5t vans.
I assume for your car?!I would rely on your reg number on Black Circles, just out mine in and this is what they offered.

Not all the Mot stations seem to apply what should or shouldn't be checked Kev. Look at the discussions about end marker lights lolI would think that MOT stations would have to flag up any tyres not fit for purpose, perhaps more so for over 3.5t vans.
No David, I put my van registration in there, then hats a Sprinter on 15" rims lolI assume for your car?!
