Tyres advice sought

Yeh, I'd have expected that the tires would only need to be 'rated' correctly and the stipulation of tires needing a specific 'Camper' rating would only be applicable IF it was written into their policy Ts&C's. ??? Jeff's post does make me concerned though. I personally use van tires with a suitable rating, NOT specifically 'camper' grade.....I think I'll email my insurer and get their take on it, interesting for sure.

I'd say nothing Merlin you will only invite trouble I feel, I'd ring a different company to your insurer and ask a general question.

Remember mine is a coach built motorhome, so I think that is where the rules apply, but a quick phone call just to be on the safe side could save a lot of heart break should the inevitable ever happen

I get what you're saying Jeff but if your insurance company is giving you information over the phone or by email that ISN'T in the policy documents then that's a massive concern in my eyes.
It's a massive ball ache I know but have you checked what's written in the actual policy documents?

You are probably right Merlin, and I don't think it actually mentions types of tyres, but it does say replacement tyres must be as the manufacture's specifications and this is where the can of worms starts 👍

Just found this interesting article, so like you say Merlin, it could be down to your personal insurance company who make the shout

Would Fiat etc fit MoHO tyres or Van tyres.

Just checked MY policy wording and the only reference to tires or tyres is "Damage to tyres (cuts, scuffs, skidding etc) isn't covered by the insurance policy.
As you say Jeff, it seems dependent on the particular insurer and their particular policy wording. I'm with AIB and they are using Ageas for my particular policy.

I would think that MOT stations would have to flag up any tyres not fit for purpose, perhaps more so for over 3.5t vans.

You would think the ply at least would be checked.

I would rely on your reg number on Black Circles, just out mine in and this is what they offered.

Not all the Mot stations seem to apply what should or shouldn't be checked Kev. Look at the discussions about end marker lights lol
