sounds like a worthwhile safety thing though, so even if not legally required, still a good idea :)

The issue is likely to be with getting full functionality. Apparently a French motorhomer ordered one and was told to download an app from Play Store, but that app is not available in France (and probably most countries other than Spain. Apparently, in order to register with the service a Spanish ID card number is required.

oh right. I thought you would just switch it on.
having an app to acitvate a safety feature is a bit daft IMO. what if the lights are needed after an accident and the phone is broken in the crash? or all sorts of other complications.

I guess the device Bluetooths to your phone and then it uses the phones GPS to perform the location function.
I don't think you can get accurate GPS otherwise unless you paid for a subscription service like you have with car and dog trackers.

Not illegal; UK citizens have carried Warning Triangles within EU for donkey's years, so, by extension ( and going back pre-Spain decision to switch to the location lamp device), UK driver would be compliant with French law with the triangle; and the French driver with his/her triangle would also be compliant. So any attempt to prosecute a UK driver would be open to challenge under Human Rights anti-discrimination provisions and Spain would be a laughing stock, especially when the Daily Fail printed the story and the value of *all" tourism spend by UK in Spain, rather than the M/home figure which is appreciably less (accuracy and the D.Fail are often mutually exclusive as its reporting history shows). Off on a tangent corrected before Donald Trump enters stage left ... :ROFLMAO:

As I understand it, the device does not use the phone for geolocation or for communication or activation. However, the device itself presumably needs to be registered to the vehicle and the owner, and I assume that that is the purpose of the app. Whether it has any other functions (checking battery state?...), I don't know.
