Van made it to USA

Glad we changed our route to include Glacier NP.
The weather has been kind to us considering how fickle it can be in September.Despite a large part being closed due to forest fires we have walked with grizzlies, well two miles away through our binoculars. On a hike we came out on to a small lake with a Moose drinking on the opposite bank.
A shuttle bus took us up the Road to the Sun as far as Logans Pass for great views.
Enjoyed using our bicycles and also a canoe on Lake McDonald all to ourselves due to a early launch.
The morning mist was actually the smoke .
Chilled out on the pebble beach in afternoon as we decided on a no drive day.
Had 18 holes on the superb Glacier Views Golf Course on Monday morning before setting off for the Cascades NP.

Your advice about overnighting in Walmart is costing you a lot of money because it is not true. It is our practice to accept their hospitality this trip just as we have on previous trips over the last 8 years.
Certainly true that some cities have NOP ordinances in place that apply all over the city and include Walmarts, and there are also a very snall number of Walmarts that do have an absolute ban, in the great majority of cases the signs are there "just in case" or ti provide a means of discouraging semi drivers who have been in the habit of resting up, or to give the business a way of getting rid of permanent squatters who turn some parking lots into a US version of Traveller's camps.
Many have no signs and some have signs welcoming RVs, but even those with go-away signs will almost invariably give permission if you are neat and tidy and ask nicely if you can stay for one night. Often they will make sure your rig is self contained and you will be asked to park in certain areas which are often marked out in yellow lines as staff parking.
Few apps are useful allstays, and rvparky have lots of walmarts listed and slso ioverlander which also lists huge numbers of free sites. Freecampsites.net also. Sanidumps.com for free dump and water if you are sick of paying for it

Great,
I have looked at Seabridge and they seem VG

2 questions
1 What about your gas on board do you have to MT the tanks
2 What about LPG availability I would happily MT my fixed (gasit) Tanks and refuel

LPG everywhere,no problems

68 days in America from 25 July to 30 September

Fuel approx 3.30 Dollars per US gallon which is approx £2.52 US gallon ( 66 pence litre)

LPG approx the same as deisel

Covered just over 8,350miles in 20 States.

Groceries and booze. £1120 (£16.50 day)

Fuel. £1347 ( 16 pence per mile )

Campsites. £345 for 21 nights (£16.50 per night)
We used mainly State Park campsites,no frills ,no electricity .

47 days free camping .

Purchase at the start of a yearly pass at 80 Dollars for National Parks have saved us lots.
It covers vehicle and occupants , average entrance is 20/30 Dollars.

Joined Good Sam at first opportunity in one of their many affiliated Camping World Supercentre stores. This cost 27 dollars which gets you discounts on affiliated campsites and a massive book at 8 dollars for all USA campsites.BUT our reason was it then allowed us to join their countrywide breakdown service for any size vehicle at 80 Dollars.
Let's hope it's never used.

We avoid campsites, too expensive.Average cost about 40 dollars but often a lot more.State and National parks are better at about 20 dollars but no electricity or frills.

We dispose of grey waste responsibly on waste ground or more often in the disposal points at state parks and gas stations. These also allow for black ,otherwise many free standing plastic cubicles to dispose black.Water often uploaded from gas stations when filling diesel.

Free camping in towns/cities always Walmart or better still Sam's Club.Very convenient for sights and eating out.

Supermarkets are as much as double compared to UK.Walmart cheapest.

Our favourite foodstuffs often only in independent supermarkets at a cost.

You guess how much fuel is required and pay first with a over estimated value. The actual amount used is what comes off your cc statement.

We have to use a 10 litre add blue every 1000 miles which is a extra expense at 15 dollars for this Mercedes 3 litre engine.

Americans very friendly and polite.Drivers pretty good and obey speed limits except in cities you get a few idiots.

Thanks again for the update, all interesting information. We’re off to California in a couple of weeks for a few weeks but not in an RV. I love the variety and people in USA, for anyone considering touring there it is brilliant.

Thanks for sharing all your experiences etc ,loved reading/following you on your travels

Looks great
Thanks
Looking to do USA from Baltimore to Yellowstone
Then into Canada and then to Halifax 2020

Hope all goes well for you

Your info convinces me we "can do it" !

Thanks,
I am in contact with them just teasing out one main issue which is Gas-it refillable tanks.
Happy to MT the tanks before loading just need SeaBridge to confirm this is good enough.

A further question is to ask if either
A) My storage facility can collect vehicle.
B) They can deliver to the facility near Birmingham
This would save us finding somewhere to live in UK when we return as we could fly on almost directly to Thailand

Failing A or B we have option C
We spend a few nights in Halifax
Return to London
Get accommodation (Air BNB or rental or friends or ????) for a week or so.
Collect the vehicle from Liverpool and drive it ourselves to our storage facility
THEN fly to Thailand

A or B would be best for several reasons clearly this would involve some cost (£100 to £200) but less than 10 days or so accommodation etc etc

Current thinking is
Liverpool to Halifax
West in Canada for about 3 months certainly to Calgary
South into USA Montana and Yellowstone and Denver and 3 months driving eastwards in general finally New England Vermont then crossing back into Canada to get to Halifax

BUT it could all change !

Hi, just to add to this excellent topic, we have just returned from a 4 month trip around Canada and Alaska, starting and finishing at Halifax, using Seabridge. We have a fixed refillable LPG tank which we emptied both ways, it was not mentioned or inspected either at Liverpool or Halifax docks.

I would just run it down to empty and not worry about it.

Thanks Pete,
I suspected all would be well with this.
The possibility of getting our MoHo back to Gloucester/Birmingham (remotely) either
A) Seabridge
B) Our storage providers
would be nice
However plan C us having to do it is perfectly good
On the way out we will deliver to Liverpool spend a few days in hotel type accommodation before flying to Halifax and maybe a week in a Motel in or near Halifax whilst we await MoHo.

Interesting to note the route you took and all in 4 months.
