Very misty and damp start but the cloud base is lifting and we have patches of blue sky appearing, time to clean off the van roof and solar panels ready for a Friday departure ........

Another superb day in the borders, dry, bright, a light breeze and 18 degrees.

Just another little hill in the Cheviots, only it's not to me. It's where I ran and played as a youngster, and where a skirmish was fought over 600 years earlier.

Clear blue in Cheshire, barely a breeze and headig towards 20° later

The van incorrectly says it's 27 degrees, but that's because it's been shut up most of the morning.

It's more like 21 degrees, wall to wall blue skies, and the lightest southerly breeze. What a lovely day in the borders.

We haven't walked the ramparts since the boys were young, where I remember photographing them against the Russian cannon.

It's gorgeous up on Ras Hill, beside the ancient fort. 22 degrees and a stiff breeze.

It was the favourite 'Marilyn' of Sir Edward Grey, previously a Prime Minister and the world's longest serving Foreign Secretary. I haven't been on top for well over 50 years, and it's a privilege to still be fit enough to return. An uncle rests inside the stone wall near the Trig Pillar.
