The weather in Wiltshire this morning was wonderful. So I've come south-west to Dorset where it's equally good in Dorchester:



......and Maiden Castle, the largest Iron Age hilltop fort in England:



...and to think that a community built this with very basic tools, though it was designed, built, modified, enlarged over several centuries.
The scale of the engineering is breath- taking:

But why are the sunflowers just below the fort facing the wrong way:



Are they getting ready for the sunrise tomorrow morning?

It's windy out there in Weymouth harbour.
In fact over 80kph worth of wind!
Storm Ellen brought her gale to Dorset about 22:00 last evening and did a first-rate job of keeping Moho-ers awake throughout the night.
There's plenty of redundant cruise ships parked up on the briny here. I hope that they've fixed their anchors to the seabed with Sikaflex or similar otherwise they'll be embarking on an unscheduled trip round the bay.

Back home in Cheshire we've had heavy rain overnight, currently dry and very blustery, more rain to come so the grass won't be getting cut today ..........

What a grim day today is weather-wise, here in west Wales. Grey and squally with heavy winds. We are sheltered somewhat being in the bottom of a valley but very crappy indeed!

My neighbour Ken, has saved me the effort of composing something.

White Port day.
Celebrating :
A parcel arrived, after 18 days in transit.
Value in UK about a tenner... Postage.. £5.70..
Unavailable here, though..
Asked for delivery to a village bar.
Checked on alternate days.
Only polite to have drinks and a natter to the locals.
9 days at about£2.50 a day...
Worth every penny.
In fact we'll still keep going down to check.

I took a potter along the beautiful Dorset coast into Devon and back to Portland today.
The view of Chesil beach and The Fleet:

......is impressive.

The wind is gradually easing down here by Portland Castle on the water front - so hopefully I'll get at least some sleep tonight.

It's less windy here on the Isle of Portland this morning. In fact it's blowing at a measly 60 kph.
I'm due to meet some of the Offsprung and Grandsprogs today for a few days camping further east in Dorset. It's going to be fun holding the tents down whilst we bang a couple of hundred 2 metre stakes into the mud.
I really can't wait to see them all.
