Sudden change in the weather forecast, as we were dining out on the terrace, last night. It was supposed to be raining ! 8mm was expected overnight
As we were wearing very little, we were not overworried , quite fancying a frolic, if the chance arose.
Luckily we had a caberet to watch. A plume of smoke rose from beyond the ridge top of our valley... About a mile away. Then we heard sirens as 4 fire engines, an ambulance and a pair of police cars worked their way up The tortuous dirt road that works it's way up the opposite valley side. Then a helicopter clattered in, low amongst the trees. It flew off ,only to return with a big bag of water underslung. After 5 more passes, it landed, out of our sight, behind the ridge. A few minutes later, it flew low, towards us, with a stretcher strapped across it's skis. Gradually, the blue flashing lights crawled back down The valley lane.
The wind dropped. After 3 hot, dry hours , we gave up hope, and shuffled inside, to bed. Closing all the windows and Veluxes.. Even the van Heki.
After an uncomfortable night, got up to find there'd been no overnight rain. Forcast was for another 3 hours of 1mm rain.
A grey cloud made welcome shade as we ate breakfast. Just as I dipped my first soldier into my egg, I felt 4 drops of rain... Jenny didn't feel any.
The Sun broke through and it's 30 degrees in the shade.
They forecast 8mm. rainfall overnight.... Will we get our frolic ?
