What did you do to your van today?

The price differential between Petrol and Diesel around here is 21p at quite a few service stations. It makes me think they are all working together.
They are all subject to the same market pressures. If someone could make a profit selling 10p cheaper, they'd have vehicles queueing down the road.

Interesting coincidence: YouTube just served up the linked video. It seems that those 'market pressures' aren't quite what you might think and the retailers have increased their share/profit enormously over the last few years...

Yes, you can always find some fool on YouTube who doesn't get economics.
Yes, there is tax on tax, but you pay tax on your earnings before you get it.
So it is tax on tax on tax really.
Fuel price competition is limited by lots of factors, but as the number of competing suppliers drops, there is less opportunity for small retailers to compete by bringing prices down.
The supermarket filling stations are being bought out by venture capitalist scum.
The remaining supermarkets no longer have to run at minimal margins to attract shoppers to their sites (where other sales will bring in margins).
To some extent, this is good news because it is now possible that the bigger margins will allow new entrants who might actually compete.

Let's hope Aldi and Lidl step in. 😁

Aldi and Lidl use the grocery prices as a draw to get shoppers to buy the more profitable stuff in the middle.
Just as the other supermarkets used to use the fuel prices as a draw to get shoppers to buy the more profitable groceries.

Thought I better give the roof a clean with having the scaff out. Plastic vent cover lhs of large skylight is UV’d to death, very brittle. Time for a new one.

Instead of phaffing around with extension cable, I used my recent purchase VTOMAN Jump 2200 Portable Power Station to power mot y power washer. Ok, while washer is not running constant, I was impressed how little power (less than 10%) was drawn form the banks.

Tomorrow, hopefully have sunshine, I'll use MH inverter to charge up to 100%. I'm still looking into see if my Jackery solar panels will charge my VTOMAN, I have had good advice from Wildbus to date.

I think the Vtoman is a great bit o kit really does well off grid also boiling the kettle and induction hob in the ports awaiting to go on a crossing etc

As we collected our new to us motorhome today ( a Bailey Approach 635) we were very busy moving our gear from the shed/house into it.
Fitted new gas hose with hand tightened wheel on it as I struggle to remove it with a spanner.
Fitted a couple of small storage boxes,
the open space behind where tv will sit made up a small bar area and wine glass holders with sliding clear perspex doors, very pleased with it.
Applied Scottish thistle vynal stickers, and Ecosse and UK graphic to the rear.
Adjusted rear view camera to a better angle for me..
Bought and external 240v socket and weather permitting will fit that tomorrow (Will get son, qualified electrician to check it)
Fitted my Emovis toll tag for going to France in June.
Fitted a couple of small hooks in toilet and in kitchen area.
Think that was enough for today but still have a few bits and bobs to do before I am happy with it.
Camera, spot lights and day running lights to be fitted sometime.
Oh and solar panel ,controller ect.

Where did you get the Ecosse sign from, please? It's very smart and ours has faded badly so a replacement is in order!

Been in the van all day working on the ..... guess what ...... Yeah! Electrics :D
Had to remove the 3 of the leisure batteries to expose the entry point for another pair of cables for another battery to add to the bank. Packed up for the day now but ready to get the job buttoned down tomorrow morning :)
Decided to check the weight of the Battery Bank .... will be 145Kg, so a fair weight there, but probably worth it as will have 860Ah of Battery, with around 700Ah safely usable.

Out of interest, my last van had 645Ah of battery with around 475Ah usable but has a battery weight of 210Kg, so moving to a Hybrid Lead/Lithium mix is a definate plus.

Finished my battery installation now. I fitted the old Lithium I took out of Steves van (and I did pay him for it!) and fitted it under the passenger seat. So here is a Roamer 230AH SB (Seat Base) battery now in place.

Topped up with diesel today in Albercete at €1.729/L, just up the road it was €2.069/L. 😵
We never made it to Albacete, Ian - the weather changed for the worse - again! But we did make it as far as Chinchilla, which is a lovely town about 12 miles away, intending to visit Albacete next ... Chinchilla has a herd of European Ibexes that roam over the roofs of the cave dwellings - beautiful sight!

We were at Chinchilla a few years ago on 4th April and it was -4°C and blowing a blizzard!

'Twas a wee bitty fresh in late December, and the temperatures were on the turn, but the Saturday was bright sun in the early afternoon and enough to make me [unfit as I am ...] wheeze and sweat on the long [i.e. wrong] way up to the castle and the ibexes. Worth it for the views and the wildlife, though!
