Should I change from continental vancocamper tyres that are down to 3mm after only 18,000 miles!!!!
If so what are Best Buy value/mileage.
Only under 3,500kg so don’t particularly need extra grip.
Have option of using spare and only buying one new if I stick with current ones.
Best price I have found in Essex is £154!!!! Better than £275 paid in Spain when I had a flat on motorway in Spain at 3.000 miles!!!!

So presumably you are only talking of your fronts down to 3mm and the rears have plenty of tread?

What I would do if it were my camper would be to move the rear tyres to the front and get a new pair on the rear (either 1new plus unused spare or 2 new)

By moving the rears to the front you will not get into the position of having old tyres on rears because they just dont wear down

Also worth googling “ new tyres on rear or front”

Ps I always put new tyres on rear

Spare 21 months rears 2 years.
I doubt they’ll outlast another front set.
Haven’t checked tread depth but we don’t have second vehicle hence £18k in 2 years.

I always put new tyres on the front of front wheel drive because this is where you get the best grip and where you have the greatest braking forces

Some very interesting videos on web demonstrating pros and cons of new tyres on front or rear

Also most tyre manufacturers web sites on their FAQ pages last time I said new tyres on rear

The standard advice is given I would think based on driving ability of the avg punter . Most do not have the skills for dealing with vehicles in a loss of adhesion situation . Therefore it is better to loose traction at the front at a lower speed which less tread will result in , most will react by releasing accelerator as the understeer progresses, whereas if the back goes first they dont know what to do . You would be surprised by the number of people who have said " it started to skid , I didnt know what to do so I took my hands off the wheel "

I don't know what your van is but you might consider buying Conti Vanco2 tyres instead of VancoCamper ( at risk of Being shot down by those who believe Camper tyres are essential). They are cheaper and in my opinion as good.
Try mytyres.com on line for competitive prices but don't forget to factor in fitting prices locally.
18000 miles is far less than I saw with my previous VancoCamper tyres on my old PVC
Good luck
K ;)

Check out Asda tyres, best price ;

Don’t forget that weight and pressures are usually higher on motorhomes. This site asks for width, diameter, profile and speed but makes no mention of the all important weight limits and pressures, probably aimed at cars rather than motorhomes and vans. Motorhomes are in effect vans that are permanently loaded to their limit and as such the tyres required are not standard ones.

Always put best tyres on the front Steering / braking / drive traction all rely on front tyres and a rear slide is much more controllable than the front giving way when your trying to brake an steer at the same time. My van has had tyres swapped diagonally every year and the tyres Bridge stone Duravis have just been replaced after 70'000 mls

Hi Okta

As far as i am concerned the Asdatyres web site does give this all important information

The dimensions of your tyre often dictates if its a commercial tyre or not

Enter the width, diameter, profile and speed And the asda tyre web site will show available tyres and the load capacity

Witzend

If you choose to put new tyres on front thats fine by me but hopefully your not recommending others to do same

Google :- front wheel drive new tyres front or back

First result from kumhotyres its long article finishes with this

CONCLUSION

To give the best possibilities of a vehicle handling safely when fitting new tyres to a vehicle in pairs, it is advisable to fit the new tyres to the rear axle

this is what i said but apparently i am wrong

Don’t forget that weight and pressures are usually higher on motorhomes. .

My pressures were specified by Fiat as front 5bar and rear 5.5bar. Continental specify pressures for the tyre and maximum axle weights as front 3.5bar and rear 4.25bar.
