Which Club and why?

theres some light discussion going on on Wildebus' thread which made me think of the question of which club folk on here preferred and why.

nailing my colours to the mast first, here's my take on it...

we wild camp wherever we can but where it's more tricky, we look for the next best thing, either a Britstop or a Basic CL.

now we started off as members of the C&CC and the CAMC (ex-CC) so we could use their CL's. We too found the CAMC main sites as a bit "organised" and a bit snooty, too many signs and regimentation for our likes and preferred the slightly more relaxed C&CC sites so we dropped our CAMC membership, BUT then we found the C&CC CL's to be more expensive, never seemingly in the right location for us, and the Site Book awful to navigate, So we dropped the C&CC membership and rejoined the CAMC just for their CL's.

I reckon we will drop the Britstop membership this year too as many of their locations are pub car parks that are not really what we want and which we could probably stop at anyway.

we have not tried other clubs like the Motorhome club so cannot comment on them.

adding complexity for us this year is the fact we will probably venture across the Channel this year so we might rethink again depending on Insurance and recovery aspects... Nowts straight forward is it?

so, who are you with and why?

K ?

C&MC because there are a couple of member only club sites that we use when we visit family down south and in London ( Abbey Wood ).

Don`t bother with their CL`s anymore because the majority are now way too expensive for the facilities they offer.

C&CC because we use their T.H.S`s in the UK along with the occasional club site.

Don`t bother with their CS`s anymore because the majority of them are also too expensive for the facilities they offer.

Joined the C&CC this year (were members years ago when we were tuggers) simply for the advantageous insurance, so we joined caravan guard instead, their deal was better !! But in case of emergency it may be of use. Brit Stops works for us too

We like Britstops.....although mainly pubs they can be in handy spots !! They have some good marina venues too. We in C&MC for insurance as well.
As for CL's we've been on all various club ones and never been asked for membership......they want the custom LOL ? Maja

Mostly wild/ urban camping in the UK
We have C&CC membership for CLs, Weekend meets and THS.

Booking Ferries, we get enough discount to cover the membership fees.

We have rarely been asked for membership cards either, strange that ?

We are members of Motor Caravan Club and have rejoined for a second year. Their rallies are quite good and are usually held close to towns - not been to many though and nowhere near as friendly as WC meets. They do have some small sites but never used them. We’ve used quite a lot of BritStops this past year but don’t think we’ll renew membership as just using book is a proverbial PIA and as for having to update the book because things have changed it’s a total noooo. I’m afraid Britstops have failed to keep up with modern technology as has France Passion.

We have been C&CC for many years and are happy to use their CS (certified sites) at £10 to £15. Most (if not all) the owners have been friendly and helpful.
We wild for most of the time when we can.
We have once emptied (x2) and watered up at a C&CC site at no cost but I made a donation
Britstops not for us us I think you spend more on non-essentials (but no actual experience)
Have had a discount (C&CC) with booking the tunnel but it needs to be a bit ahead which does not always suit us,

My best deal ever was Hurley Riverside Park £15 Full facilities (eg a Building with toilets showers washing up facilities (hot water).... not sure about cooking) and EHU also good wi-fi
Not advertising just informing.

No longer a member of either, have tried both in the past. Found both to be to busy, or regimented for our taste. However we did like Abbey Wood London due to its location but I can always go as a non memeber.

We go to Abbey Wood 3 maybe 4 times a year and stay for 3 or 4 days each time we go so it`s cheaper to be a member of the C&MC than pay the non member fee.

Been a member of both C&CC & C&MC For 20 years but manly use the C&CC For the THS sites in the summer as I travel a lot on my own and with the off peak age concessions 25% discount I can stay for £9 to £ 11 with Electric and I can sit in the van in earlier & later months & some times winter with the lights and heating on and when it is cold I have the heating on the hole time on site. Even if I am wild by the time I pay for the gas at £24 for a 6kg bottle it would nearly be more expensive. As for the C&MC I it keeps the door open if I am needing Landry washed needing gas. As for some of there sites not all you don't feel you are welcome more so if you park between two caravans down come the blinds.

We are still in the CAMC, but will not be renewing this year as we have joined the C&CC, which appears more friendly and suits our needs; we almost exclusively wildcamp in known and unknown spots, but if on long haul we will use a commercial site or one of the club sites to restock and dump waste. We used to use CLs extensively in our caravan, but now motorhoming find that we don't really need the facilities. Slightly off topic, we also joined NTS and Heritage Scotland to visit some of the wonderful buildings/castles etc in Scotland and England if we venture down there in the summer. :The_Sun_Face_Emoji:

I'm with C&CC.
I use the club sites out of season (brilliant value), the CLs occasionally and also have the house and contents insurance through their agent because it includes 180 days unoccupied cover.

Colin ???

We have belonged to both the main clubs for more than 30 years and always thought it worth it mainly for CLs and CSs but occasionally their main sites if visiting family, but they are getting expensive now even in low season (as are some CLs).

We make good use of the Temporary Holiday sites that the C&CC District Associations run and have got reasonable discounts on the ferries except for the Newhaven Dieppe crossing which is cheaper to book directly by phone for a good over 60's discount.

Steve

I have just finished with C&cc, never got any benefit from them, except a couple of rallies I attended. Had no problems with them, it's just that I didn't need anything from them, as I rally and wild camp.

C&CC for the THS and the rare CS. Nowadays we do less wilding and more THS.

We are in the C@CC mainly for the temporary holiday sites which are usually in lovely spots and cheap in high season. The C@MC for a couple of their club sites which are in places we like and also the comprehensive CL list.We are also in the MCC for their casual campsites in S.Europe and the Haven special offers,£30 for 5 nights with electric and bingo during off peak.

I've been in C&CC for over25 years. We used the THSs and weekend meets a lot when the kids were young. I have the RAC Arrival with them and have used their Club Care insurance for all my caravans and some of my motorhomes.

I joined CMC (ec CC) when I retired to give me more flexibility.

If I had to ditch one it would be CMC. Both Clubs' CSs & CLs seem to be overpriced, although there are some little gems, but I like the Club sites - the facilities are always good and they work out cheaper for me as a solo than commercial sites because they charge per person. C&CC are better because CMC always charge for EHU, plus I get the OAP's discount except in high season.

I've been in Britstops for 3 years but probably won't bother again, there's just so many pubs and other places now that they list where you don't need it as the places advertise themselves as stops on Facebook anyway, or they are in the WC PoIs.

I chose the Camping and Caravaning Club obviously as you can tell from my thread.

The reasons why were:
In my Self-Build PVC, I will have a Portapotti, but decided against a actual shower. So with that in mind, decided it would be useful to be able to have access to Camping Sites with facilities to drop into intermittantly.
The choices seemed to be between the C&CC and the CC (now the Caravan and Motorhome Club). From what I have heard and read, it looked like the CAMC would happily take my membership fee, however I would not be welcome at all their sites with my non-branded Campervan Conversion, and even likely more so due to its unusual appearance, whereas the C&CC, taking tent campers as well, would not have any issues (I believe anyway).
I also joined to take advantage of discount deals such as at Go Outdoors and the like.

Oh, and of course, if you join the C&CC, you are sent a life-size pinup poster of their president :Blow_Kiss_Emoji:
