Cam belt change

How long is a piece of string?
Please can anyone in Warwickshure give me an idea of how much a cambelt change should be in these more expensive parts days of engines. Have one quote and waiting on a second.
It was bad enough when I was younger and female because of course most women didn't, or weren't allowed, even change a tire or top up oil etc (I did) but now grey haired old lady doesn't stand a chance even with internet research.
Thanks for reading

Front wheel drive engines are harder to do and many require a water pump done at the same time, £500 seems to be around the going rate.
Lucky mine was a iveco inline engine and only had to remove front panel and rad to get to it myself saving money.

In May 2021 I had mine done on my 2005 Benimar 2.8JTD . Timing Belt Kit £66.00 Total cost with labour and VAT £335.70. Small garage in Kent.

I don't see why Warwickshire would be a different price to other places. I paid £475 in August for cambelt and auxiliary belt on my 2002 Peugeot Boxer 2.0 hdi.
This was at Geoff Kilbey Plant and Commercial, New Milton, Hampshire. They specialise in motorhomes as well as commercial vehicles

I wish they would go back to pushrods, far better by miles.
I had a push rod engined Citroen CX and that had a fekkin timing belt which snapped, think the garage that used to service it before I bought it had lied about having changed the belt 10,000 miles previously.

Better with a chain drive or a shaft or gears, very few car makers ever did this, picture of a ford gear drive cams.engine ford.jpg

Remember ! It's cheaper and much more convenient to have a timing belt replaced than having to because it has snapped. Always have the water pump changed as a new belt put more tension on the pulley and for the low cost of a new pump it would be silly not to. I always have any idler gears changed too if I'm not doing it myself. Also why not have the alternator belt changed too. Whenever I've changed a clutch I always renew the crank shaft oil seal. Why not. For the low cost of a seal would you really want to have the gearbox removed again just for a £15/£20 part. Only a few minutes to change

Not forgetting the front g box seal, very important.

FORD did lots right after the model T ...

Sales numbers back that up ...

ALL manufacturers have issues with SOME of their products ...
Especially when large numbers of units are involved ...

I don't get the mentality of
"this maker is crap"
"this maker is best thing since sliced bread "

I've dealt with cheap manufacturers that have been both great AND rubbish.
AND
Same the other way around

I'm sorry BUT You can't boil life down to
Linux = fab
Windows = crap

Skoda = fab
Ford/everything else = crap

Toyota 1500 corona and hiace 1600 petrol had a tufnol gear from crank to drive a low cam and pushrods, that engine was unburstable.

Cams went in the pintos, big ends on the x flow, best engine they built was the banana trani diesel, dirived from the old troublesome york engine.

Well, there we are Ann apart from post #4 no fecking help at all.

Edit:-
To be fair posts #2 & #4 did throw up some answers.

Phone around and make sure anything that needs changing at the same time is quoted for. Any decent place will do this automatically.
