Cam belt change

Well took van in for it's booked in treatments. It wasn't in the book! Thank G I had double checked as I had written it both on acalendar and a diary as they gave the booking to me. Left with them and will be done later in the week.
Next Monday some hab damp work. Sometimes wonder if it's time to give up. My eldest daughter seems to think so but then I think she thinks anyone over 70 shoukdn't be behind a wheel!

As long as I enjoy doing it
As long as I can do it
As long as it upsets others doing it ....

Sure as hell I'm going to carry on doing whatever IT is ....

About 25 odd years ago, my sister and middle brother thought my mum should give up driving (she would have just hit 70 I think?).
I totally disagreed and reckoned she needed to keep her independance so I found her a Nissan Micra which had an Auto gearbox and Power Steering to replace her Ford Escort.
Kept her on the road for quite a few more years (y)

Good luck, hope it all goes well. I'm afraid I gave up with Winnie, just too much stress trying to sort out all the things that needed doing.

No intention of giving up though - after all, it was only a few months ago that DVLA sent me a nice new shiny licence to drive so I must make use of it. Just need another van now ...............................................

Don't get me wrong but why would we blame modern engine failure on manufacturers , the above talk of Boxers for instance ,that same engine has gone into how many vehicles? Surely it is made to the same design from the same materials machined and assembled in an identical manner...so how come most cover
great distances with no more than routine maintenance...while others fail ? When the
109 and X flow bottom ends failed it was pretty much all of them not just a small percentage, same with pinto and vauxhall cams, clearly design or manufacturing error
I feel that most failures today are perhaps down to manufacturers but not the actual engine more pretty much all the ancillaries, and environment of use..just good enough wiring loom and connectors, plastic everything expanding contracting age hardening UV damage,on goes the list including driver failure ,and by no means last lack of or poor maintenance.
Or is it that the same component for the same engine comes from multiple suppliers ,but if this were the case surely the dodgy supplier would soon show in failures related to all engines fitted with their part failing.

Hi
We have a Peugeot boxer 2litre and just been quoted £400 from a small independent garage with an excellent rep
Belt and new waterpump

Around £150 for full kit probably about 3 to 4 hrs under good conditions,so £400 about right
at today's independent labour rates
