Well, really hacked off about this, which I knew was happening and would happen anyway.
Good lady was speaking to her sister tonight who lives in Ballachuilish, works in the Fort and covers most of Lochaber in a Primary care roll.
Locals are disgusted by Motorhomers and Wild Campers crapping and emptying their toilet cassettes at side of road, lay byes and other places.
NC 500 is particularly bad.
I know this will again glean unpleasant responses to me but that is what is happening.
I have travelled most of Scotland all my life since I was about 5 yrs old with my family in Strontian and areas, at 15 cycled Dundee -Fort W, and what everyone now calls the 500, Motorbiked it, drove it and hitched it before the Tourist Board listed it as such and never saw another human being generally.
Shame on anyone not paying this country the respect it deserves, if by just staying away or at least having some kind of plan on where you can stay, travel and at least leave it as you would expect to view it.
I am sure I will get responses like, `we were there and never saw anything like that! and we drove 500 miles to see it`, .
You are most likely the offenders.
1 seriouslly hacked off jock.

Campsites in the highlands have been seriously overcrowded this summer. Many sites have not opened at all. Toilets closed. No disposal facilities available. Lots of first time visitors. Lots of first time motorhomers. Lots of hired vans. Lots of tent campers with nowhere to go. No wonder there is a problem. Its not just in the Highlands. The powers that be are saying " holiday in the UK" then not dealing with the infrastructure problems.

I mentioned that my neighbours about 2 weeks ago when they were up near Durness that he was talking to a friend of his (a local) and the local was saying he’d stopped a motorhome from emptying his cassette into a stream which ran onto a beach where people were swimming and lying on the beach

(not the neighbours)...

I remember being at Chester racecourse a few years back there must have been at least a couple of thousand motorhomes and campervans all shapes and sizes remember looking at the waste management system and how well it worked they organised and disposed of waste from toilets and large Elsan tanks a truck with a tank would come round twice a day and empty these tanks the guy who drove this truck then came on a wee money spinner on the side he would drive round like an ice cream van and empty peoples cassettes for a couple of quid dirty job but he made a few quid that weekend. Something similar Could be done in highlands tanks placed at garages and other locations collect waste for a fee then have a truck empty tanks when required. Something along these lines would make everybody’s life easier.

Yes you will get a response like how dare you put that we are all most likely the offenders I hope you include yourself in that then, you can be a hacked off jock as much as you like but I can assure you that I and a lot of members on here have never done this and I like you have driven and wild parked and stayed on campsites along the NC 500 long before they ever thought of giving it a name like has been said it’s not just Scotland it’s all over the UK there just are some dirty bar stewards driving around dropping their shit wherever they feel like it so please go be hacked of elsewhere or try to be civil to members on here.
hacked off from Yorkshire another Place of beauty being used as a big outdoor toilet. 😡

And this one exceptionally peeeeeeeeeeeeed off man from Lincolnshire.

Nothing disgusts me more than some of the scum bag people we are forced to share our lives with, don't they have any standards, don't they have any kind of respect!:mad::mad:

Just recently down at Wells Next The Sea, what a friend described as the Benidormers had descended onto the beach leaving litter quite literally everywhere, not picking up any of the excrement their dogs had left behind and worse still, this scum could be seen crapping quite openly on the beach and then making no attempt to cover it up!!

There maybe many on this site who have never dumped their cassette contents behind an hedge BUT there are some who have, there must be 😡. We all know the N500 can't cope with the numbers visiting at the moment, we all know many of the sites and toilets are closed. It’s no good saying councils should provide facilities us or they can expect this sort thing 😡. Maybe we should give the popular places a rest a chance to get things in place again. Let’s explore new areas and find new gems. The best way not to be associated with the negative stuff that’s going on is not to go at the moment.

Whilst I agree there is too much litter around and people will need to dump their waste ( black grey of whatever), banning people travelling and visiting places will do nothing to stop it. The ONLY answer is to provide proper facilities so people can dispose of waste properly

The problem is that it’s probably too late now and even if facilities were provided, people would still dump rubbish because they are used to doing that now.

I blame the shortsightedness of local authorities for the mess ( pun intended) that they are now in.

Well that doesn’t work because I avoid all popular places during the pandemic and the height of summer but I still get tarred with the same brush as the dirty Moronhomer.

I’m sorry but I feel attitudes like that and an acceptance that people will dump their wast, will result in more legislation to prevent us enjoying our hobby. It’s easier to legislate than provide facilities in these difficult times.

We still have a pandemic. We can all make a difference by staying away from the more popular areas which we know can’t cope. Schools are due to return, the number of hire vans on the road will drop, people are going abroad again, this may result in a reduction in the pressure in these places.
Yea we are all getting “tatted with the same brush” we need to avoid getting feathered as well.
You obviously thought avoiding the popular places was a good idea so what’s changed?

It's not just motorhomers that cause problems and leave chaos behind. Visitors to our beaches at Bridlington are disgusting for the amount and type of rubbish they leave behind. They complain about dog owners not cleaning up but what about about parents who leave dirty nappies, face masks etc.along with all the other rubbish they don't want to take home. There is a volunteer team of beach cleaners goes out everyday to clean up after them.

I agree it’s totally out of order. I don’t think MHs will be involved in this sort of pollution but they are, without doubt, in other areas of pollution and there is no army of volunteers going round behind us cleaning up and nor should there be. We should all be responsible for our own waste!!

I agree with TissyD the local that was talking to our neighbours said he saw 20/25 tents and once again no toilet facilities campavanannie I don’t think he meant the people on here did he?

Jeanette I think you need to re-read the last sentence in his post it was aimed directly at people on here.
