Just a reminder mainly for any newbies, to drain down your boiler and water system and empty your water tanks, given the cold weather.

A new boiler or burst pipe could be a very expensive business to sort.

That reminds me to put some antifreeze in my unit or drain it down, some times i put a 500w heater< on timmer> in the van leaving doors open.loo layout.jpg

Also leave the taps open?

Drained mine last week. Certainly cold now. Bin wheels crunching the ice as I took it out this morning. Brrrr

Good point David.

Taps open is a must. Freezing weather popped a couple of pipes off under our bathroom sink in our last MH because we hadn't left the taps open and the expanding water had nowhere to go.
We've had a lot of cock-ups that leave us with a long list of "won't do that agains".

I left the Frost Dump Valve open when I sterilised the Fresh Water Tank and descaled the Water Heater [the Valve would have popped open by now of its own volition!]. I also left the Grey water drain open so that any residual flushing water could run off, using the street camber to tilt the tank. It must be empty now, because the MOT Tester mentioned nothing about getting a neckful of grey water yesterday!

Useful reminder though, so Ta very much, Graham!

Thank you for this; I know absolutely nothing . Did the Hereford rally this year; got 4 booked for 2023 with you. Anyone who knows us, hubby has Alzeimers and he’s no longer aware of certain things. We’ve a VW solar panel. Parked at home outside, use it once a week at the moment day out. Keeps it ticking over. Is there any more advice you all could share with me. Doing me best. X

Using it once a week is a good idea, it'll help on a few levels, tyres don't get flat spots, brakes and clutch don't seize up and the battery gets a top up.

Do you know if the solar just tops up the leisure battery or does it do the starter battery as well.

If you need to know anything just start a new thread and we'll do our best to sort you out, but give as much info as possible such as make/model & with pictures too if you can.

As Pudsey says: if you post up what vehicle you have and perhaps the name of your boiler, then folks can help you with how to drain it down.

A new Truma one can cost upwards of £3k!

Meantime, the drain valve is usually very close to the water boiler and will look like one of these, it's a good idea if you're driving the van at least the first trip out is to leave the valve open so the vans motion gets a the last drops out, it can then be closed, also when the weather warms up don't forget to close it again if you left it open or water will just pour out under the van when you try to fill up.

Our toilet uses the fresh tank in ours, and the cassette is almost empty just a cup of water and blue stuff.

I have never though of emptying the ones with their own tank TBH.

What are these water boiler things I keep seeing mentioned lol seem to recall having one in a caravan years ago
That caravan sounds so much posher than our first one. Ours had an exterior water barrel full of cold water that I pumped into the internal tap by repeatedly pressing on a rubber bulb built into the floor. 😳

To make it hot we boiled a kettle, and we thought it so modern compared against the previous mountain tent and frame tent. Who really needed lithium in those days? 🙂

What you boil and drink lithium, do you glow at night.

Ahhh, I see your point Trev. Poor grammar on my part. Many thanks for your correction. 😁
