Time to renew my driving licence again.

And a trap for the unwary old folk.

Yes, another couple of months and mine needs renewing. As you said it comes round very quick.
The older you get time seems to pass by quickly, this will be my third round of applying.

Not due till June but I could be brown bread by then so did it online.

Could be dead by then? Gonna need it to drive your own hearse?

PS. Just a reminder for people not got to their 'three score and ten' .... Still need to renew your driving licenses regularly, albeit every 10 years (same as passport).

Nah, they'd catch fire I think, and I'm not good with heights anyway.

Well if you're going below make sure you've a HGV, you'll need it for the fire engine or the fuel bowser. 🔥 🚒 🔥 📛

Got to do mine this year, should be fun as need to keep D1 so may as well keep C1 and A on it as well. Have to get a photo as well as I'm still on an old paper one.

Very simple online, paper form is a PITB and if you make a mistake you need a new one as they don't like scribbled out mistakes.

I think you need a medical/doctors report to keep the other qualifications, I didn't need them so let them go.

DVLA are stupid.

Got the renewal reminder letter & did it on line on Tuesday, new licence just arrived but it runs from 15 March, so stolen two ,onths or so off cock up on there part, they have all my information including the expiry date & birth date FFS.

I'm on hold with them now to find out which department of Efwits screwed up.

That happened to me the first time I renewed my license they start the replacement from the day you renew online had to renew again last year waited till the day before it was due to expire wasn't getting short changed a second time

I looked at it more closely and they have made the expiry date to be as it should be, bloody text is that tiny I couldn't read it but my photo runs out before then so I'll have to renew again in 2025, why could they just tell me on the form and I could have sent a digital one while applying.

It can't be done online if you want to retain grandfather rights, you have to fill in the form. Yes, you need a medical report which costs but mine will be paid for me by the community transport I drive for.

No renewal needed for under 70s if you've still got the old paper licence! The last time we moved house was just before the photo licence came in, so we were able get a paper licence with the change of address on it

I wonder how many people still have a paper licence? Do you have a pet dinosaur as well? Must be old enough :)

(PS. When you say you were "able to get a paper license" it sounds like it is some kind of benefit to doing do? What would that be?)

My first Provisional Licence was the small red card cover booklet from the Regional Office in Worcester in 1969 (y) IIRC, the cost was £1, almost an entire week's earnings from my Paper Round [26s10d per week at Coopers Newsagents, Wollaston] ...

As I pointed out, the benefit is not having to renew every 10 years 😊.
I won't have that benefit for much longer though, I hit the age barrier next year 😕
