France/ Spain trip with possibly Portugal.

Enjoy Alaska! Have you been before? It’s amazing, we loved it! Certainly felt like ‘the last frontier’ sometimes!
No it's first time for us in Alaska, we have been to Calgary and the Rockies skiing, but have never been to Vancouver so having 4 nights there first before the cruise.

Our cruise was a 'last minute, final 3 cabins' relocation sailing from Yokohama to Seattle on NCL Jewel. Fabulous experience, if a wee bitty expensive, but worth every penny!

We've done a few cruises over the years, I was fortunate to work for myself, as I could pick up bargain last minute holiday deals up, we have always booked balcony cabins, but as you well know you can spend more than the cost of the cruise with extras onboard, especially with the tip now costing 18% charged automatically on top of your drinks price. Then they charge an additional $17 per person per day for cabin steward and waiter's. Preferred the old tipping method myself.

But the cruise lines say that this is a fairer system as you only used to tip front of house staff, so those who work hard behind the scenes didn't get anything, not sure they still do, it might just be a ploy to increase the companies profits with these autocharges.

We have always found P&O to be the cheapest for drinks onboard with no added tips, the same bottle of wine cost me £17 onboard Azura when I got the same bottle on one of the Cunard Queen Mary, it cost £35.00 a rip off. Many of the cruise lines belong to Carnival, but they have different pricing on the different ships for some reason.

we went round carbeceno a few years ago fantastic experience cable cars running right across the site over the enclosures and 26kms of roads inside the place , €20 sounds very cheap was nearer €40 when we went but worth every penny
I have to agree what a fabulous day we have had there, went round a bit of it in the motorhome, but there are sections were you can't go round in the motorhome, so we got the scooter out and used that, also been on 4 cable cars, loved the gorillas and brown bears, best value for money we have had on this entire trip. Would throughout recommend it, the village is gorgeous too by the Aire. It's only 20 minutes from Santander. A lot more motorhomes here now, mostly British, must be catching the same ferry as me tomorrow.

Wow, were have all these UK registered motorhomes been hiding, not seen many on our travels, Santander port is full of them, must be 100s here waiti g to board.

Cabaçena !

Great stopover..

The Spring water is like champagne. Always used to fill every container, before we left.

Supposed to be sailing at 2.00pm, no chance of that happening still loads of us in lines waiting to load, no one is giving information as to what the hold up is and I can see the ship but no one seems to be driving on board.

We were delayed by 1 hour, but they are making time up as our ETA is still 8.00pm tonight, it was rather choppy in the Bay of Biscay this time, the last two times it's been like a mill pond. It's a lovely ship, TV in the room with VOD. They don't sell travel sickness tablets onboard, but there is a nurse who can give you something for it, I presume at a price. We are seasoned sailers, so didn't effect us. Tried to book the commodore lounge, but it was fully booked up, probably because we booked it only a few weeks ago. Had a cooked breakfast this morning, €11 with a coffee. Didn't eat last night as the queue to book a table at the restaurant was unbelievable, by the time I got to the front of the queue, it would have been 8.45 before we could get a table, to late for us, so we just ate in the Tapas bar.

Ferry docked at Portsmouth at 8.00pm on Wednesday, decided to stay the night at Port Solent, rung the number on the board and spoke to security to check in and gave our details. Following morning we went to the Witherspoons on the marina for our breakfast for 8.00am, unbelievable value £6.34 for full English in that setting, it was very good, I also liked the unlimited coffee too which was extra.

We set off on the road back to Blackpool at 9.00am and landed back at 5.00pm with an half hour stop, 280 mile journey took 7.5 hours never seen as many hold ups and lane closures, when you compare it to the 520 miles we drove from Lo Crispin to Santander earlier in the week with not a single hold up. I can actually use the cruise control at 90kph in Spain as it's such a relaxing drive, could hardly use it yesterday, even when I got to the outskirts of Blackpool, I encountered yet another 30 minute hold up. Get me back to Spain.

Set off yesterday lunch time making our way to Santander for the ferry. Stayed at an Aire in Pinto, next to a large Mall and a lovely park, it had full facilities for emptying and filling the motorhome, there was about 6 motorhomes staying over night. Le clerc petrol station next to it and washing and drying machines. It cost us €6.50 for the night. It's about 20km south of Madrid. There is a Warner Bros theme park there.

We have just stopped off for some lunch in Olmillos de Sasamon, just parked by the castle that is a hotel, there are rubbish bins here and you can empty and top up at the petrol station. Heading for the animal park for the night close to Santander, I believe the stopover is free but no facilities. We are hoping to visit the safari park tomorrow, looks like admission is €20 each, has anyone been there at all.

Can I ask, what website or app is that please? TIA.

Martin had his phone and a credit card stolen yesterday in Vila Real do Santo Antonio at the aire - a few hours in the police station and with info from credit card company, the police had tracked him down. They brought the phone and credit card back to us that evening! The phone had been restored to factory settings and the sim gone. How does that happen when it’s password and finger print protected?!? We’d cancelled the credit card. Fortunately we have another one. Our wing mirror was crashed into a few weeks ago and I’ve had to go to the dentist, think we’ll be glad to get home!

Sorry to hear this, were there any other motorhomes parked up at this aire, did you leave the alarm on, have they done any damage to the motorhome breaking in. At least the police have caught them, you couldn't count on our police here investigating it, you would just get a crime number at best and told to claim on your insurance.

It wasn’t a break in. The orange seller, we now have worked out, dumped his oranges on the phone and when we said ‘no’ (they were too expensive) he walked off with the oranges and the phone! Very impressed with the police, they certainly wouldn’t have bothered at home!
