fridge cooling fans

What little rays of sunshine we are

My biggest gripe with the 3way is....
For a big piece of kit, the storage space is minimal when compared to a domestic fridge.

I'm in a bit of two minds on whether to go ahead with pulling out the 3way, to
1, create another cupboard, while continuing to use the 12v chest fridge, or
2,have a domestic fridge put in, and selling on the chest fridge. The 12v freezer will stay.

So many plans, so little money.
Can't say I've mourned the loss of the 3 way for a single second ...
Seems to be loads more usable space in the 240v one I chose (especially as I went for one without a freezer box )
As we have a 40l waeco we COULD use for freezing if we needed to .20220111_154018.jpg20220111_154253.jpg

I’ve been parked up for a while with little sunshine. As some will know,I’ve tried to use 240v for cooking, along with 12v fridge and freezer.
Because of the lack of solar input, my batteries are depleted. It looks like I’ll have to give up on my ( expensive) experiment of going gas free. Sadly, I think the bl…. 3way is going to continue taking up space in the van.
Tbh, I’d rather use lpg than have a generator.
Or would I?

We managed to be completely gas free in the transit for many years with 200w solar and 3 x 100ah fla batteries ..
All year round BUT we did move around every few days so the VSR did most of the work in winter ....
Worked very well for us though.

Tbh, I thought that I’d have more than enough solar to compensate for my use. Something is not working properly.
I’ve asked a trusted member, and they said that I need to have the system inspected. That’s going to be a while before I’m in his area. Meanwhile I’ll keep on keeping on.

Would it be a bit strange for a 3-way fridge to be pushed with its back against the wheel arch? the burners are right at the bottom and access for not be possible. I don't know for sure, but seems the design of any 3-way would not allow that?
Compressor fridges very different and you can get "wheel arch" versions with a cut-out for that reason.

As an aside, my 3-way fridge was on top of the wheel arch :) but the whole fridge enclosure was made to sit above the wheel arch so the only consequence was that the fridge was raised off the floor a foot or so. The actual fridge was no different.

Doh, didn't read it proplee

Ah, I see, making it even less useful.

Look at the fridge in this and then the price of the van, we went around the factory in 2011, not impressed with the layout or the insulation and you had to have their odd idea of appliances.

We would need a freezer as Liz cooks for the van, and I do a few curries to take as well as well, GMG gave us a good one and Tim ZZR1400 did too :) :)

Our freezer box in the fridge was to small for SWMBO so it got removed so we have more cooling fins and a Dometic Freezer CFX3 25 lives in the garage.

No garage though, and no space inside as that is where whatever I am using to get about lives.

Moolah, or rather the lack of it and only doing the UK not really needed more cooling, but Liz keeps going on about France but I'm not sure I'm up to it nowadays.

I am pursuing lightweight wheelchairs, but need to be able to get 25 miles out of one if poss between charges, we would need to use a site at least once a week to plug the van in, it also needs to fit through the 50cm door too and be able to lift into the van.

There are plenty sub £1k ones out there, bit not found one which meet the above yet.
have you looked at the solex folding electric scooters (goes through the motorhome door) with one extra battery it then dose 30+ miles between charges also you can get a 12v charger if needed I just user a 350w plug in pure wave inverter to charge mine hope this will help you out

Yes I posted about it on another thread last year, I enjoyed it but it had issues, it was a used one so I think I just bought someone else's problems, I bought it at a good price of FB, tried out the principle and sold it at a better price, turned out to be a loose wire in the end.

I had a new wheelchair delivered this morning so sorted out now, thread here https://motorhomer.com/threads/on-board-charging-advice-wanted.46513/

With the three fans mounted in the top vent and blowing air out how and when are they switched on and off? Automatic or manual?

My original 3-way fridge, 2009 Adria Twin, is still working ok (probably jinxed it now!), no fans installed. Freezer although small is impressive, we can get three cooked meat meals in there and just need to add veg. Off to Spain and Portugal for 50 nights in 4 weeks and will try to avoid the hot-hot-hot areas in which case from previous experience the fridge will be fine.

I don't have any photos, but the Fan installation I did for Marchie last week I think is pretty neat :)
a pair of "UpHere" fans like Greengrass has fitted on the top vent to suck hot air out, fitted to a 3-way switch which lets you have the Fans ON, the Fans OFF, or controlled remotely.
The remote control is a Temperature Controlled Relay, which can be programmed to turn off at whatever temp you want and is a unit same as this one in the photo below (I use this particular one to turn on a fan in my 'electrics locker' door to assist cooling when the Charger/Inverter starts to warm up in use)

Temp Controller

the black lead with the white plug is the temp sensor, which in the case of the Fridge fan setup goes into the void at the back of the fridge.

Agreed! And, being anal retentive/OCD, the temperature controller and switch being inside the Van are great! The LEDs are a little bright, but we use the switch to turn the display off at night, so job's a good 'un ...
