Cleaning out the tank and pipes.

What can I sterilize my water system with? Can't get Milton - it' hasn't been available here in Tesco or Superdrug for a long time now.
Peracetic acid which is a food grade sterilising solution. 100ml to 100ltr go see your local brewery I'm sure they will help out.

Unsurprisingly, I take a more cautious approach! I top up the water in the sink and shower traps [have to do the same with our French hovel!] and, periodically [i.e. when I remember or the smells recur], I flush some warm water solution mixed with washing up liquid and then rinse through with fresh water

We did have a wee scare on a French Aire in August where there was a common tap for both fresh water and black water disposal. Suspect that another m/homer was a tad careless with the hygiene and one of us [not me] had 48 hours of seeing how quickly the cassette could be filled  Almost quicker than I could empty it ...

Steve

We regularly have that (medical reasons...not me btw!) so carry a spare cassette!

You have acres of space, Graham; we have to manage with a 5.99m M/Home that has been nicely designed and equipped, but some of the 'nices' occupy space and weight that we would use for other things, such as a spare cassette!

'How are you feeling?'
'Devastated; the world has dropped out of my bottom ....' :D

When needs must Steve I think you'd find it to be an essential item to carry...

Well, Graham, I did remove the camping stools to make room for the full sized chairs, so who needs a cassette?

I've never bothered with sterilising surely the water we fill with is already full of chemicals to keep it pure. Tank in our loft has never been drained since I changed it 20yrs ago

In the UK drinking water is always connected to the mains inlet, when I build our house I had mains water put to all on suite and family bathrooms.

Maybe have a word with Bob the builder then
He build Yours
Never Assume Theres only one way I have a bore hole which the other houses share water pumped to loft after going thru treatment plant pressured from there to system No mains for 5 miles

Na bob was on holiday, we have bore holes here as well but the stored water is mainly used for the bath/ shower and flushing the toilet, the drinking water is freshly pumped and filtered also passed through a UV steriliser as per WRAS legislation.

Hello, has anyone used Thetford Tank Blaster? Here is the link to Amazon Tank Blaster

There are no UK reviews so not sure as it is a bit pricey.

Things go better with Coke !

For the Waste Tank Thetford Duo Tank Cleaner we use....200ml down sink drain same again down Bathroom & Shower Drain & the remaining 200ml in Toilet Cassette left overnight does the job for us .

Puriclean for us in Fresh Water Tank....as 'marchie ' points out in post #40 we came across the same HERE in Cornwall on a highly rated Camp site there was ONE Tap on our pitch nxt to a waste drain that I was told I could put my Black Waste down I said Never she said had no complaints before & I said so the same Tap is used for Swilling your Cassette out as is used for Fresh water Yes she said, THAT should never be surely, well we WONT be returning there again. 🫢

I ordered a 400mg pack of Puriclean which should suffice for 2 cleans of mine. I think £ for £ there's nothing in it so I went with the stuff that is 100% safe for stainless steel.

Can anyone advise if my suggested steps are correct as I've not done it before.

ta
Once I’ve filled the tank I run it through the pipes and taps before leaving it. I also make sure the hot water tank is full.
