VPN

I' ve been trialing Windscribe on this French trip. I'm now out of free data but I've not found it to be 100% effective. It has fooled the Beeb more often than not, but Channel 4 resolutely declined access, so the decision is uncertain for me. That was using Ipad's or iPhones linked to a router with a Reglo sim.
Have you tried connecting your router to Windscribe rather than your devices?

I have found ExpatVP,N to be very good !
About £50 a year. I use it consistently and it simply works for me with BBC iPlayer. Used every day. Both live and for downloads.
I am now into year 3 and will continue with it for now
I am confident out is safe for mobile banking

We’re toying with the idea of using a VPN for watching TV abroad, and also the security it would offer when online banking etc.
Does any body use one and are they easy to install and manage please.
I have a house in France as well as the camper and use a vpn all the time, have in on laptop and phone, it works well.... I use Windscribe.....

I tried a few when watching English TV in Spain a few would buffer a lot and some wouldn't even log onto web. I finally settled on Nordvpn which I have used successfully for the last 3 years.

Hey Rog, I can't argue with the security side of things but be aware that a VPN is not the silver bullet for streaming TV it used to be. BBC i-player blocks you when it picks up you're using a VPN whether you're in the UK or not.

That said, im not a doomsayer, if you are using a British SIM for your mobile WiFi then the signal goes back to UK and so when we were in Norway I watched iPlayer with my VPN turned off

They are simple to set up and deals change almost daily. I know that doesn't help much but maybe more informed

Love to Chrissy

Best way is to set up your own VPN server if you have internet at home, then you'll be using your home IP address which won't be linked to a VPN service provider ;)

Thanks Mark, we were slightly disappointed with our IQ sim in Norway, but we have now fitted Starlink, which is brilliant, slightly expensive, but appears to be very reliable so far. Because there’s no sim involved, I felt I needed to use a vpn to disguise our location.
Using PIA at the moment, and it does seem very good, but time will tell, and we can have all devices connected at the same time. See you in November👍

Now that sounds complicated..
It's not too bad if you use a Raspberry Pi or a small form factor router alongside your internet providers router such as a GLi.net one, loads of videos on Youtube (y)

Thanks Del, I've had a quick look through the web ui and can't see any sort of network/vpn option, so maybe its a no no with this model.

Been using Surfshark for two years plus and I’m perfectly happy with it. Unlimited devices and it is installed on laptop, phones and Firestick. From memory I think it’s about $40 a year.

Good news is that if you open the Web GUI in Firefox and install the "ZTE-MU5001-HACK" extension it reveals a "secret" menu with the VPN settings, the bad news is that it only supports the PPTP and L2TP protocols which are outdated and not supported by any of the main VPN providers :(
My MU5001 has an Ethernet port so I turned it's Wi-Fi off and connected it to the WAN port of a GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (Opal) which uses Wireguard and OpenVPN which are both supported by all the main providers and dead easy to set up, the GL.iNet GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) which has a bit faster Wi-Fi and WAN port speeds but I find the GL.iNet GL-SFT1200 (Opal) fast enough for me and it's cheaper ;)

Kind regards,
Del

Thanks again Del for looking and the subsequent info, I'll do some more research on your suggestions when we get home.
Cheers Dave
