What did you do to your van today?

What I did today: I drove to a camp site and put the hand brake on. It flew up in the air with no resistance! The cable had obviously snapped 🄵. I wondered if the site warden could recommend a local garage. I got underneath and couldn’t see anything wrong so inside I removed the rubber gaiter around the lever. A Clovis pin connecting the lever to the cable had come out. All I had to do was replace it , and replace the very cleverly designed retaining pin that I found under the lever. Its design is such that it could not possibly have worked its way out. The van must have had a new cable and whoever fitted it not replaced the clip. Disaster averted, and no cost! 😁

It's legionnaires disease I'm slightly concerned about, it's a big thing with stored water and pipework not used ie, for me it would be the shower as this in the moho is never used, motorhomes especially older ones the water changes temp all the time which legionnaires bacteria really like. On saying that I've never heard of legionnaires poisoning from a moho water supply but technically it is possible. I agree a bit of bacteria is probably beneficial but I just avoid drinking water from moho tanks even though I do flush it twice yearly with purification powder and drain water after a trip or if its been in and not used more than 3 days.
If you are concerned about Legionella and other nasty stuff that may be lingering with your stored water, look into fitting a 12V UV filter.

As far as I know, it only grows in warm but not hot water, and only infects you if you ingest it in vapour form.
That really means from a shower head in a motorhome environment, and they tend to be cold or hot most of the time.
We rarely use the shower, so the shower head won't have any water in it anyway.
An all-over wash uses far less water and is just as good.
I'd not tell you not to worry about Legionnaires in the motorhome water tank, but it's not something that would concern me.
Same here for washing, but we heat the tank water til the kettle whistles, then add tank water to it.

Just bought a new more bigger kettle, dirt cheap, but works on anything.

That's not a Kettle Kev, THIS is a Kettle (to paraphrase Crocodile Dundee)

I bought the 7 litre version years ago (when they were still called Kirtley Kettles). They make a great campfire Kettle but maybe not really required in a motorhome!

Used it at a meet at Rutland Water once to keep everybody in Tea/Coffee.

Well I suppose Ā£160 worth of diesel to get there and back is cheaper than getting it failed and repaired here. It hasn’t done any miles since it passed the last mot, the guy was converting it to a camper., Exactly how it passed with a broken rear light cluster and no screen washer and broken screen wiper, I don’t know. Perhaps I should take it back to the place that passed it last time with a suitable brown envelope.

Eventful day today:
1: yesterday I went to fill the fuel tank but couldn’t get the cap off. The lock wouldn’t turn. I squirted all sorts into it but failed.
2: today is MOT day and I wondered if it is necessary to be able to remove the filler cap for the mot. MOT was at 3:30 so first thing I went to the garage to ask if I need to get the filler cap off. Yes . The nice boss came out with a tin of squirt and after a lot of squirting and wriggling he got it off and it worked properly.
3: MOT time and I asked if there is anything underneath that needs fixing could he show me while it’s on the ramp. He called me and was exuding praise about the condition of the chassis. Someone’s been round this and rustproofed the said. That’ll be me then , I said. It passed with no advisories. Yippee! I was expecting a few bushes to replace.
4: Back home I unwound the awning and cleaned it with some spray I got from Brownhills. Considering it’s 27 years old it came out beautiful.

It’s not all roses . I was away last weekend and the water heater dispensed water all over the floor. So, Ā£80 worth of parts are wending their way towards my house . . . . .

Main sunroof support [plastic] bolt that allows the threaded rod to tighten against the alluminium strut failed at Barnoldswick on Friday morning and supaglue+cable ties couldn't make even a temporary bodge repair. Ebay has generic versions at maximum of £7.50 +P&P for 10, but went to Kirkcaldy Caravans Shop and bought their version for £15.00, because a] it was immediate supply and I could get the repair made; and b] I could see the part, measure it for fit, and could see the Idiot's Guide to removing and inserting the clevis pin that holds the mechanism together.

Whilst at the shop, I spent a further £19.50 on a new bathroom tap microswitch, but this looks a b*gger of a job because of restricted space and wiring hidden behind the cabinetry in the bathroom. Might seek technical assistance ... [despite @Patnlore patient advice on the methodology at Barnoldswick]

Will have to return sofa base cushion to Upholsterer for slight foam trim to remove a tightness crease, and to arrange for the Captain's seats + rear headrest to be re-covered under Phase 2 of the work
