What I did today: I drove to a camp site and put the hand brake on. It flew up in the air with no resistance! The cable had obviously snapped
. I wondered if the site warden could recommend a local garage. I got underneath and couldnāt see anything wrong so inside I removed the rubber gaiter around the lever. A Clovis pin connecting the lever to the cable had come out. All I had to do was replace it , and replace the very cleverly designed retaining pin that I found under the lever. Its design is such that it could not possibly have worked its way out. The van must have had a new cable and whoever fitted it not replaced the clip. Disaster averted, and no cost!
