Annie’s big European adventure

Annie is quite taken with our wild camp for tonight here on the bank of the Canal des Ardennes:

There are lots of wild flowers hereabouts:

.....and even a flying boat:

I was always coming for a full month as were others but we have now split up and gone off in different directions in smaller groups

On our route through France we came across this this world war1 war memorial complete with surrounding trenches a very somber place but worth a visit. We then set of to find a park up for the night and found this fab place next to a man made lake with a beach so we took the opportunity to have a paddle now relaxing before tea.8BD5C94A-5486-41E1-8E0C-21FC7E59C136.jpeg3E3F0490-C0DA-4E2A-BAE3-937CC8AD6285.jpeg470A4CDC-660F-4C62-B6AB-4B8DECEE99BA.jpeg6AFDA61F-9971-453D-B34E-319163E60F06.jpegC23DEBB8-C210-432E-A317-7F68036B8589.jpeg747017B0-BCED-40D7-B8FE-2DB53D8C8B79.jpegE1580020-CB88-40B2-B725-D5CCB7E31CB6.jpeg3BAF76F2-FF04-496D-A02D-A7F79792A693.jpeg0C88672C-4F28-45A9-B7C2-81B48B97C4A4.jpeg

As you can sense from the previous post, Annie quite likes tonight's wild camping spot in the forest surrounding Lac du Der-Chantecoq:

About 200 metres away is the delightful Lac:

.........and someone couldn't resist the temptation:

Then prawns for our evening meal, though frankly I think Annie went over the top with the presentation:

Silly Girl.

Since we arrived in France Annie has become a bit barmy about baguettes. So much so that she can often be seen with a brace of baguettes on the way to her breakfast stop:

But why, oh why, does she wear slippers amongst the cowslips and have her hair done in the shape of a tree?
Silly Girl.

We were blissfully meandering through the French lanes this afternoon when we happened upon a small car boot sale (a vide-grenier, or 'empty loft').
Annie took a fancy to a 'hugging' salt and pepper pair but the seller wouldn't budge from 3€. So we walked away.
Later we spotted a nigh-on full Camping Gaz cylinder with burner attached for 5€.
Same seller.
So the Yorkshire terrier got the lot for 5€:

She's from Yorkshire.
He was terrified.

Across the road there happened to be a brocante ('antiques' or 'junk shop' as Annie prefers).
In she went.
Whereupon the owner instantly pinpointed Annie's accent within a few miles of Halifax.
So Annie congratulated him, haggled in Yorkshirese, and bought two butter knives and a ground coffee measure at a much reduced price.
And then got the dealer to clean them:

The strawberries and ice cream?
Annie's celebration at our wild camp by the river at Laizy this evening.

The Yorkshire Wanderer was, as usual, fairly desperate for her daily baguette fix this morning so we only managed about 5km before stopping at an artisan boulangerie.
In she went for one plain, one seeded ficelle:

Annie was very taken by the other client's headgear:

A black beret has been ordered and will be seen bobbing around a cold, wet field near you in the near future.
Silly Girl.

I know you have a big garage but didn't know you carried your own decking.:giggle:
beat me to it sue.......when i first saw that pic my immediate thought was....NEVER........one time she arrived at a meet with half a tree trunk in her van (snoopy) and no garage in that van......now shes gone the whole hog and carrying her own picnic table and decking.....what next....lol

The Yorkshire Wanderer couldn't wait to sink her teeth into the ficelles.
So we had to stop for breakfast at Digoin, where Annie had her first glimpse of La Loire.
Then 25km or so northwards along the Loire to Saint Aubin-sur-Loire where we settled on our wild camp for tonight:

Not too crowded for an Easter weekend.

Oh, and Annie discovered that her waste tank wouldn't empty.
So on this, my day of rest, I was clearing pipework.
Eventually I removed what Annie described as a small Brillo pad.
It wasn't.
