Turning the plate rack 90° ..........I hate rattles.......

Possibly not quite as much as we both hate irritating noises. We don't have a plate rack because to me they waste space in our PVC. We use a drawer, with cloths separating the different sizes. (Sorry David. )

In all honesty, when we changed our van and downsized, we immediately accepted the differences and adjusted our life style to suit. Our problem is that we are so reasonable. . 'Spose that's why we've 50 years under our belt together.

The one thing I would love is a variation of Scotia's beer system. Instead, I have to walk to the pub ......... and usually do, especially if it's Cask Marque or the beer is warm and has twigs floating in it.

Gaslow refillables fitted to first van (2017) and transferred to current van, cheaper than exchange cylinders and very convenient.

Just use papaer plates and bin them, or proper plastic camping plates, they dont rattle.

Melamine plates rattle almost as much Trev, and paper plates are rubbish for real food, ok for cakes but not a stew etc.

We tried that once, took the rack out and stacked them but it didn't save any space as the footprint of a single plate is larger than the racks, so we had to interleave them with kitchen tissue, but they slid about so the rack went back in, we carry porcelain and melamine plates and I can fit one of each in each rack slot so no rattles, bowls chosen to nestle, glasses stack in the cup rack, as do the mugs, cutlery is the noisiest, but I put a silicone mat over the top of them they still rattle but it muffles the sound quite well.

A very simple mod for me: putting up hooks in the MH...

- 1 each behind the drivers and passengers seat to hang our high vis jackets on

- 2 above the hab door for hanging damp coats on

- 4 in the bathroom for hanging towels on

- 2 in the kitchen area for hanging the rubbish bag on (open)

Mine dont as stored in a tupperwear box down in the food cupboard, pots and pans in a towel lined drawer above.

Changing the back axle to a high ratio was my best move, first one was 8.41 and new unit is 11.43 which dropped the reves down by 1000, so now i can site in the midle of the green band on r counter doing 56mph and burning less fuel.View attachment 70598View attachment 70599

I did use some cloths, but bought those separators later on for a number of reasons..
Just easier to use and actually less bulky; also with the cloths you end up using them and then you don't have the anti-rattle device any longer; and you don't save any money by using cloths anyway as you would have to buy them in the first place - and if you already have them, you would then need to buy some replacements - and if you didn't need to replace them as cloths why did you get them in the first place

Yes, it makes sense to have multi-use stuff, but plate separators in my book have a single purpose that is in use virtually all the time

Actually... One mod that I have made that is now coming into its own now it gets dark so early is adding a remote control key fob for the awning light. So instead of having to fumble around or find a torch when coming back to the motorhome, I can just hit a button on the keyring.
That is dead handy and cost maybe a fiver for the parts.

Just checked and I paid £12 (I thought it was much less, but still worth the money)

And fitted inside the awning light housing.
You would need to remove the housing to fit and refit/reseal afterwards. I had to remove it anyway to fix the bulbs so did this at the same time.

Something that is handy with this particular kit ... it is automatically on when power is applied and you use the remote to initially turn off. Why that is handy is the existing awning light on/off switch works exactly as before. You could ignore the remote feature if you wanted, so it doesn't change how you use it unless you want to and don't have to have the remote to still use the light.

Same here AND for the main living area light ...

Great for when we gat back to the van in the dark with the dogs .

You can buy an awning light with a built in PIR which illuminates as you approach the door. One of my vans had one retrofitted, it is a useful security tool as well as a small red light was fitted inside to warn of movement when all the blinds are closed.

4 part remote installed here, front cab lights middle and door inside and out, 4 for alarm or fuel cut of if required.

Best Mods to my 2009 Autocruise Pace?
(in no particular order)

Gaslow refillables - convenient and cheap refilling. I have a little "future apprehension" about availability though - but then just change back to Calor I suppose.

E&P Self Levelling system - What a great toy (bit pricey though) I can (and have) slept on the side of the mountain, the wife needs to be absolutely level. Problem solved. Excellent for raising front end and lowering onto grip-mats in muddy conditions. Changed a wheel on hard shoulder once - no jack needed - bliss. Also great talking point at sites.

Solar Panels - We wild camp a lot - thus invaluable.

Cigarette Lighter socket above table - add Cig lighter to 6xUSB charger and I can keep phones, tablets, laptops radios, camera batteries and W.H.Y. constantly topped up. Socket is wired directly to battery, so useable with all else turned off (on/off switch on socket)

Loads of coat hooks - placement can create modesty screens (little tags on each corner of a bath towel). Drying in Shower cubicle. Holding mesh baskets in kitchen - loads of other uses.

Mesh "pockets" under the cupboards over our heads in bed. Ideal to store books, phones, specs etc.

We found we had never used the grill/oven, so we took it out and used space with well chosen (for best use of space) baskets for extra storage - you can never have too much storage!!!!!

and dozens of other little fiddles to make life on the road a little easier.

Had the van since it was 6 months old, now 24 yrs. Cannot get rid of her as we have got her just how we want her.
