Liz and I were just talking and she said she had parked in a BB bay and put my badge on the dash, I'm not happy about that, she walks fine and has no other issues or so I thought.

When we are out together we use the badge the way we're/I'm entitled.

If she goes out alone she always parks at the end of a row so she can out and back in.

She has had both knees replaced and she is left with very little bend, stairs are a problem but she refuses to use a lift as she's not happy in them so she uses the stairs.

I knew getting in and out of the car was a problem but not how much, I thought it was getting out of the seat, but it turns out after 14 years it because if I don't leave her room to open the door wide she physically cannot get in or out.

So, as we all know car parking spaces are very narrow and the new car is a bit wider than the Fiesta so it's come to a head now.

Do you think she would be able to get a badge just on that premise?

If she meets the requirement she will get a badge Kev.

Just be aware if she is caught using your the badge can be revoked so you won’t have use of it. Think it can be a big fine as well 👍

Yes, well aware as is she, words were spoken, I even got a few in when she paused for breath.
 
I can apply on her behalf, I ticked none of these reasons and it just said not entitled.

I just rang, only open 9-12 and badgers are taking 16 weeks to process.
 
A letter from a doctor or a specialist consultant stating walking problems .

Then you qualify ….
Yes it does take a while for a blue badge.

The only way it is quicker is to have a long medical award with personal independence payment then it takes a week or so to renew.

And WTF happened to not all disabilities are visible?
 
My wife got her BB a few months ago and it has been a boon.
I can't recall which boxes we ticked but she does have chronic arthritis so I know the problem Liz has getting in and out of your car.

However, it took 3 years from first applying, involving letters from a senior consultant as well as other lesser mortals. Even that wasn't enough and she had a telephone interview with a physiotherapist who said she would support the application, she didn't understand why my wife didn't already have one BUT she couldn't guarantee that this would be agreed. Fortunately it was!

I know they can't just hand them out like sweets but the criterio is is terrible to wade through, I'm going to ring them when we get back home.
 
It’s many years since I got mine (1978) but as far as I recall you had to go through doctors, I went to a medical exam and assessment at a surgery a few towns away back then. I know it has gotten a lot easier to get them since then though.

Edit: it isn’t just the walking bit Kev, I used to know a guy in a wheelchair who didn’t get approved as in the chair the classed him the same as an able bodied person. Remember seeing same type of thing over the years for DLA as well.
 
I had to see a doc for mine, I was pre warned that this particular doc was very keen people not getting one if he could help it, so much so that the car park had CCTV just for him to watch you.

So you had to lay it on with a trowel, I had crutches, I also parked in the disabled bay, which he went nuts about, fair enough of course but I got the badge where others didn't as he watched them walk a long way from where they had to park.
 
Applied twice , once with a letter from GP . Knocked back both times . Appreciate many more deserving cases but I assumed blue badges were for people who had difficulty walking short distances and worse .
 
It is very much like the parking bay problem everywhere, people abusing the system so they don't have to walk, I've been in a lot of pain for over ten years and I finally gave up and went for the badge 4 years, like most I have good days and bad days, luckily I was forewarned about this doc, and went a bit overboard to ensure I got a BB, having a BB has made a massive difference to what we can do together and myself alone in the car and in the van.

I feel for those who get knocked back who have a genuine need for a badge.
 
There are many cars here with fake ones, there was a while back when authoities tried rounding them up in the courts.

I have a friend in Tamworth who managed to get one and he is a member of both a cycling club and a walking group, he didn't need much info from his Doctor and he has none of the symptoms that Kev posted so clearly he lied on his form but not enough checks were in place.
We struggled to get one for my MIL in Hertfordshire and she was in her 90's, she had to see a doctor (not her GP) and was originally refused, we had to get letters from her specialists before they granted her a badge.
