Cheaper LPG!

well 30 new pence, But in TODAYS money .... 6 shillings is equal to £3.40!
How come? a shilling has always been 5p x 6 = 30 not affected by inflation.

I have added to my post .....

your 30 pence was a conversion to the Decimal Value, not "Todays" value.

blackjacks and fruit salads used to be 4 for a penny. they became 1 [new] pence each a bit later (so instead of getting 48 for a shilling, you would only get 5 for 5p). Now THAT is inflation!! :(

Wagon wheels are smallerer than a fecking shilling now

I had a part time job at a garage in 1970, before and during decimalisation. Petrol was around 30p per gallon at the time. That's 6.6p per litre.
