well 30 new pence, But in TODAYS money .... 6 shillings [in 1972] is equal to £3.40!30np to be more accurate.
How come? a shilling has always been 5p x 6 = 30 not affected by inflation.well 30 new pence, But in TODAYS money .... 6 shillings is equal to £3.40!
That's what I asked30np to be more accurate.
I have added to my post .....How come? a shilling has always been 5p x 6 = 30 not affected by inflation.
Tut, have it your way but it will still on;y buy 30 penny chews, cept they're subject to inflation so maybe just oneI have added to my post .....
blackjacks and fruit salads used to be 4 for a penny. they became 1 [new] pence each a bit later (so instead of getting 48 for a shilling, you would only get 5 for 5p). Now THAT is inflation!!Tut, have it your way but it will still on;y buy 30 penny chews, cept they're subject to inflation so maybe just one![]()

I recall paying 27p in 72 so you must have been in a posh oneI had a part time job at a garage in 1970, before and during decimalisation. Petrol was around 30p per gallon at the time. That's 6.6p per litre.
when we came out of school in 1957 i would go in the cake shop & buy a (1PENNY) hovis loaf in Droylsden . cheyenneWagon wheels are smallerer than a fecking shilling now
I think out cheapest was 28p but our other branch just up the road (a filling station with no garage) was a bit cheaper. Didn't like working there: too repetitious.I recall paying 27p in 72 so you must have been in a posh one![]()
