Finally booted Virgin out

After all the messing about I have had to ditch the LG TV recording, it just comes up with errors to be fair it's a 6 year old TV, and the thumb drives are possibly as old, I have the Humax box up and running but it too has issues, not got around to setting up the BT box as I have had enough for one day, tomorrow maybe.

@wildebus

Did you get any restriction on how many programs you can record on your BT youview box, I know it's 300 hours but I ran into the limit within an hour of setting it up.

Nothing at all.
Not sure how much I had recorded precisely but a quick scoot through the MYTV folder, I would say must be pretty close to 300 hours and over 300 individual recordings and it is showing as 25% free.
(I am guessing the 300 Hours is based on a certain quality of recording? most of my recordings are old programs recorded on 'minor' channels such as talking pictures and they may well be transmitted at a lower bit rate so take less disc space up?)

Hmm, I wonder if this thing has a problem, I like the way it works otherwise though, might see what the 1tb is like.

if used, maybe the drive is full of deleted recordings that are taking up room that they shouldn't? is there a FORMAT option to refresh the drive?

Not sure David, there are only about 15 recordings in place, I wonder if is counting the proposed recordings I'v set up.

dunno, wouldn't think so. I have around 100 recordings of just one series (30 minutes each so that is 50 hours for just that one.)

I need to look more into it I think.

You aren't recording in 4K or higher are you Kev?

No Neil, no point, the TV doesn't do 4k, 1080p is enough for my old peepers anyway, I think most of what we record isn't even HD either.

Just did a basic countup of my recordings and how many hours I estimate is recorded ....
185 recordings of ~30 minute programmes
130 recordings of ~60 minute programmes
14 films - call them average of ~90 minutes?
Adds up to 243 hours worth of recordings based on rough times above. That would add up to about 80% full; box says it is 75% full, so sounds about right? (I was not aware of this 300 Hour number you quoted). I don't see any place where you can check the physical capacity of the hard drive.

FWI, Mine is a Humax DTRT2100 and is configured to auto-update any firmware and would appear to be fully up to date. Might be worth in your settings on the box to check if it is all current and turn on updates if off?

Thanks, David, that is above and beyond mate, setting updated today must be automatically set to up date as I have no option to turn it on or off.

I think the 300/600 hours thing was in a review I read before buying.

I have to say it's a cracking bit of kit, I'll see how we go on this one, I may go for the 1tb at some point as I think it might be a newer version not just larger drive.

Glad you like it. It is a handy box and I like how you can use a phone app to send record requests (have to pair the phone to the box first but that is quick and easy).
One of the first things I did with the Sky HD+ Box when I got it was swap the hard drive for a bigger one (think 1TB but might have even been a 2TB possibly?). That was well over 10 years ago and would be a pain using with the smaller drive.
You might want to consider HDD vs SSD if changing the drive? SSD should be more reliable but they are limited to how many read and writes they can do and not sure if that would be a factor on a STB? Don't think it should be but never know!

Are you subscribed to BT with yours? not seen how to pair it yet.

I'm on an Android on talk mobile David which is essentially Vodaphone.

Is this the same app as you have?

Roadblock.

I get these screens in this order.

Get the EE App, then in that you:
Ignore the Home Button and Sport button - that is if you subscribe to EE/BT.
In the 'Live' Screen, you Ignore the 'Watch Live' tab - again, subscription
; but the 'Schedule' is the key one - that is the Freeview TV Guide and how you can send Record Requests to the YouView Box.
'Store' button is another pay one - I don't know if you can do a pay on demand thing? never used or tried it
'My TV' is where you can see what Recordings you have.

This is where you get prompted to pair phone and box for the first time. All the other buttons are for EE/BT Customers - the Recordings is the only one you need to bother with and where you can see what is recorded already and what is scheduled. You can't watch a recording on the phone though

I very rarely use the TV Guide on the actual box to set a recording - usually use the app via the Live/Schedule

Smashing, very easy as you say once you get the right app.

I looked to see if you could down/upload to the phone, but didn't see a way.
