Finally booted Virgin out

Right   Try again

I'm wondering if 256g will suffice, bearing in mind that this will not be the only recording device, the BT PVR will be here in the next day or two.

Ok, I rang LG and got a very nice and MEGA patient lady who took control of my phone and I pointed the camera at the screen, we tried all kinds of things, unplugging, holding to off button for 30 seconds, plugging back in, trying both thumb drives again but still not joy, so she said she would have to escalate it up to higher tech as it was coming up with this message:-

Now Having managed PC shop in a previous life I wondered if I was getting that due to it having seen the drives before several times it was jsut not actually verifying, so I asked if it was just picking up the label, and if I changed it, would try again? so I did and it is now working, no idea why tha poped in as I'venever need to actually do it since the 80's when my backroom tech man said it sometimes worked, he always labeled drives and discs as he had so many it saved writing labels on sticky labels, I did both drives so I'm letting it record a prgramme now to check the quality, then I will try to other, I alsdo want to turn the TV off NOW and see if carries on recording, then I will see if it works on the other drive, LG are unaware of this development so I'll enquire about the max drive size and mention the USB 3.0 etc.

Hopefully we're sorted and a big thanks for all the suggestions.

Meantime I did a quick recording of Friends as it was nearly ending jsut to see it doing something.

Just to be super-pedantic, don't turn the TV OFF literally and expect it to carry on recording :D Maybe use the remote to put it on standby ;)

(Just saying that as in a Motorhome, people tend to turn the TV properly off to save power rather then just hitting the remote power button. I do that and only leave it powered when away from the van if I have recordings setup)

Yes, of course, that is what I meant :D :D

The Friends recording was ok, I should have looked at it live too as it seemed a bit badly lit, and quite dim looking, but it could be a TV setting as we never normally watch live TV, it was watchable though, so I'll record some stuff later tonight not boring daytime crap.

As an aside, I have had the kind of issues in the past you experienced, so when I bought my Avtex TV a few years ago, I also bought an Avtex branded USB stick (just 8GB) to have available but it turned out the USB memory stick I had handy worked fine so never needed the Avtex one :)

Are there any quality settings to choose from? Quite likely in order to save storage space.
I know when I use the Sky Go PC App Guide and set up a recording to the Sky Box, it asks me if I want to record in HD or SD for example.

None in the recording but there are general settings for the TV playback, it'll do, TBF I also have the old Humax box, and the BT one you made me buy the other day :D :D so not sure of kit now, and the reviews on the LG recordings aren't good but at least it was free as I already had a few thumb drives kicking around.

hard to work out these resolution things sometimes. Like that video I out out on my Youtube channel .... it is at full HD 1080p and on my computer it is nice and clear but when I play it on the main big screen TV with a firestick, it definately seems a lower resolution. dunno if it is the Firestick (one of the latest ones) or the TV (over 10 years old).

Well it does seem to record ok, but the quality is not great and it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to delete one, as the remote doesn't have any playback or record keys as such, I'm away from Monday for about 10 days while Lizs sister is here from the US, so I'll set up the PVRs when I get back home, assuming the van will actually start, that is today's mission 🤞🤞🤞

They do if BRSK has a box on top of one near you.

It's my son's address and they don't because the bungalow is UG fed, they can't get the minium height required for a drop wire ;)

Problematic Del.

BT PVR just arrived, I'll see if I can set it up after lunch, I rang BRSK and cancelled the Better TV box.

LG just rang me back, I have to say I am very impressed with them, the TV was made 9/2018 so well out of warranty, she confirmed that changing the label should work, and I asked about the video quality and she suggested that I might change that in the TV settings and see what works best, apart from being a bit convoluted in how you control the video playback it's not too bad, just the programme guide is very slow to update when scrolling channels or time/days.

Good support from LG there. Makes you more likely to buy an LG again I bet.

For sure, maybe I was lucky to get someone who GAF when I rang, and I didn't get transferred I stayed with one person all the time including the call back, We all moan about CS but for once it was as good as it gets, I did try to get a new remote as this one is the third one and they are all pants, the volume part rarely works.

We have had Sony tv’s for the past thirty years or so and they’ve generally been good, until this current one. It is supposedly a smart tv but the thing is a bloody monster when it comes to using the installed apps etc.

The biggest bugbear just now is getting the thing to maintain an optical output for the sound without a lot of fannying about with more menus than Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant. Turns out the optical output is only active on one HDMI input. Both tv speakers and optical work side by side only when the thing is using the DTV tuners.

Next time it’ll be LG or Samsung I think.

Cheers

H
