France 2023 tour.

Yeah see them here from time to time grey or white but not seen that colour b4 they're like a tardus inside

Time out from the constant on the move gives one time to research what is around you. Noticed a disused rail track that ran from Beaucaire to Remoulins and runs above Comps is now a cycle way, nice and flat with the odd slight gradient, we did the 25 kilometre round trip to Pont Du Gard. It really is a fantastic 2000 year old Roman structure, mind blowing in fact that this viaduct was built to supply the then Roman fortress of the city now called Nimes with water.

Return journey was interesting, as rain and possible thunder storm’s forecast, we were pedalling back towards nasty looking storm clouds, with flashes of lightning and thunder in the distance. Near to Comps, a thunder clap broke right above us, I can tell you, this was a pant changing experience 😱 tens times the noise produced by the Edinburgh one o-clock gun, Rocky our dog, who was behind me as I tow the doggy hut, was petrified, this is how sudden it was. We got back to the aire, all of us now under the awning, then the rain tipped down. Anyhoooo, a really nice cycle over to the viaduct using the redundant rail track now a cycle track for all to enjoy a safe travel experience. IMG_4479.jpegIMG_4483.jpegIMG_4470.jpegIMG_4471.jpeg

I did say the return cycle trip was interesting, Bea was noting the various crops in the various fields, stopped on return as courgettes were spotted, you can guess the rest 🤫
What was an old station house renovated into a home, very nice too! I loved how old features of this station were preserved, including rail track and switch gear within garden boundary.

Went the opposite way today on the cycle track over to Beaucaire, then over the bridge spanning the Mighty Rhone to Tarascon. Beaucaire is another walled fortress town, historic section has very narrow street, there is also a bull ring, too. Over the river at Tarascon with its old Chateau, and historic section with more narrow streets.

Avignon.

Wee tour with the walls today, more tomorrow, place was buzzing, VERY narrow streets in the very old part of the city. Popes Palace is out of this world!! The pic with the Fortress in the near distance, is the Chateau of St Andrew.

That looks stunning and you’re getting decent weather. Enjoying the photos Terry
Weather been great mate, Mistral been blowing a hoolie today, forecast same for tomorrow, fine within the walls and, glad you are enjoying the images, handy for a future long tour.
Incidentally, on the aire between the two bridges, to stay the 36 to 48 hrs max allowed, is 19€, fine applied if you stay longer, 11€ for 24 hrs. Usual aire facilities available with the price.

Thats exactly what I’m going to do read the whole thread again and pick out a few places for my summer trip. That’s what it’s all about I suppose. I was wondering how long you had with the 90 day thing then I remember how you can stay longer. Worth the ear bashings for longer Euro trips don’t tell her I said that.😂

You are definitely getting better weather than us Terry, crossed over last Thursday night, currently at Rivedoux Plage on Ile de Re where it is raining and windy. Trying to decide whether to cut our losses on the west coast, original plan was to head south and work along the Northern Spanish coast and the Picos, but the mid range forecast is rubbish if its accurate.
Got to see the Queen Elizabeth carrier as we headed out of Portsmouth .........

Nae bother bud, fill your boots. Ear bashing is not an issue wearing good ear protection. 😂

Crazy weather Dave. Bea’s mum phoned today, raining at hers near Poitiers.
Mistral bad today, scary moments when driving to Avignon this morning, huge gusts hitting MH broadside…interesting moments. Expected to continue tomorrow, the + , it keeps the rain at bay, and when in the Lea side with the sun out like today, nice and warm!

Ah the carrier, I use to view various sections being barged up to Rosythe Dock yard from my workshop window when I was based at my Granton Campus. An impressive piece of engineering.

That’s a lot newer Terry the one I seen had the snout nose like an American truck.

Thought it may be too much coincidence Wully. Cracking motor, that is now two Magirus trucks spotted this trip.
BTW bud, Rocky now has his French passport, hence the pic at post 255 😂
