Is It Worth Having A Microwave Cooker In Your Moho?

It would take 100w panel a long time to recharge what a m/wave would use,but yes i many cook at home on one but did not think viable for van,i will do the maths and look again.
You might be pleasantly surprised Trev. With your solar setup, you would likely recoup the energy used pretty fast.

Perfect for tinned Ambrosia rice when on a campsite in winter

Best to ask yourself "do I use a microwave at home?". If answer is no or rarely, chances are you wouldn't when away.
Some people love using a microwave and they are really useful. For myself, only rarely to heat/reheat ready-meals and takeaways. I did think about getting a smallish lower power (700-800W) one but asked myself the above question and didn't bother.
I am very tempted by those "Instant Pot" devices though. Seen a small (2L) clone of one on Amazon for under £50 that has good reviews.
I have no real cooker at home and have used a m/wave to cook come 40 years, some folk never get on with new tec, back to the crook over the fire.

We had one in ours but removed it as we never used it, we use the space it took up for our bread and biscuits bin

hi we use a small one when on ehu in the winter which is kept in the garage when we go to europe i take it out works for us

I just don't have sufficient room for one, plus I'd need room for an inverter and batteries or a generator to run it. Occasionally one would be useful but not worth the space and weight or annoying others with noise. Horses for courses, if you have a big van with lots of payload and batteries it's probably a useful item.

Wouldn't be without ours... I do a lot of cooking, but I cannot get everything ready at the same time for the wife and I and the two kids. so easy answer is cook it all, put it aside, when its all ready bung it on the plates and then one minute each in the micro... everyone gets a hot meal. couldn't manage without it although we are usually on sites on EHU... never tried it on my inverter... boiled kettle once on the inverter off grid and it flattened the leisure battery!
We had one, found we hardly ever used it. We used Aires extensively, have solar panels, and don’t see the point of shelling out extra for leccy. Then it conked out, so chucked it out, giving us a nice big cupboard and saving 13kg of useless weight. Wouldn’t be without our gas oven though, use it all the time.

Instant pot =electric pressure cooker so only works on electric. We use a conventional pressure cooker all the time, works on gas or electric, makes great meals that would otherwise have to cook for ages. Wouldn’t be without it!

The instant pot is a lot more than an plug-in pressure cooker. I used to use a pressure cooker in the past but not for ages. Microwaves have taken over in many ways from them. But use a Slow cooker much more than a microwave anyway.

Waiting to see what Black Friday deals will appear next month to see if any Instant Pot or lookie-likeies have a good offer on them :)

looks like forum loves my posts so much it duplicates (triplicates!?) them :)

Wouldn't have a microwave as they're too heavy, use too much juice and only heat up food. A mini oven around 1500w is much lighter and you can roast properly in it, as well as grill and bake.

I've noticed that quite a few members have microwave cookers in their mohos.
I've got one in the kitchen at home but frankly only use it for heating things up (mostly the milk for my coffee!). My particular model is a combination conventional/microwave/grill cooker so I can also use it as a standard cooker for, say, the odd baked potato.
I don't have one in the Moho and wonder if one would be useful or practical?
