Lost our travelling buddy

So very sorry to hear this terrible news Ruth and I do hope you can have closure and find Chloe so there’s no chance that Someone has taken her in

Had a spark of hope yesterday when our neighbours came rushing over and said they had spotted her over the valley from us on the hillside opposite a few minutes ago. Climbed through brambles and up terraces , no sign. They then wondered if she had gone over the top of the hill, so went to the village opposite, found track and went down the hill calling her. No sign. People living next to track already knew she was missing and keeping an eye out. But we cannot see how she would get over there, how she survived the cold night and why she wasn't there when we went over. Sunday is the day for drinking port and his eyesight isn't great. Because she is white she would be clearly visible among the burned out pines and low undergrowth (fires 2016 devastated the hillside). We have since had friends walk in area above the hills and we have been looking constantly as the barn faces the hill. Also checked with vets and council for microchip reports. Nobody within several kms to take her in, we are pretty remote:(. Still looking in local area and woods around us but not hopeful we will even find her at all now with all the wildlife in the woods. Trying to stay optimistic, but hard!

All the locals know she is missing through Facebook posts and the local grapevine. Market day today so even more people will know.....not much happens here!

A friends cat jumped out of his van on the busy A303 while they were travelling last summer, he turned and went back as soon as he could but didnt find it. as he did milk round he was out early then looking after work, posters everywhere but still no joy. three months after the event he got a call and went to see and was reunited with his cat.

Unusual for this after that time I know but just goes to show it can happen

saw this a while ago , seemed worth a try https://www.reshareworthy.com/how-to-find-a-lost-dog/ dog had been lost over 10 days
As she vanished from just outside our door, we don't quite know where to leave stuff. We have left a bowl of water out and her bed in an open room, but she was so sick, we do think she has gone somewhere to die. We have left a work t-shirt of Dave's in the garden too.
@saxonborg no mountain rescue or similar in the area. Unfortunately.

Are you aware of these people “Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue (SULSAR)”, apologies if I am in the wrong area, just trying to think outside the box.

We are away in central Portugal so no rescue people.....they seem to have a more harsh attitude to dogs generally...bit of a shrug and although they have helped search and spread the word, a bit bemused at how upset we are. They have pet dogs and also the "doorbell replacement" who stay chained up, not quite the close relationship we enjoy, except rarely. They spend all their time working the land and the dogs not chained up, run free and often go missing or get hit by cars. :(

Apologies didn’t realise you were away.

I know exactly what you mean..... we used to live in France for many a long year and could never ever comprehend the bastard attitude of most French country folk when it came to any kind of four legged friends, be that a cat, dog, horse etc.! This is why we supported the specialist Dordogne based Phoenix Rescue.

None of the above is of course any kind of consolation that possibly your oh so loved Chloe simply went away to find her stairway to the great big playground in the sky.......... my heart goes out to you both.

Phil

Our lovely Chloe went missing last night, she had been unwell, a bit disoriented during the evening and very cuddly. Was sick and Dave let her out and went and got stuff to clean up. In those two ? Three minutes she disappeared. She never roams or goes further than the one terrace even though we have a lot of land. Spent the several hours searching all the surrounding area, neighbours lands, woods ruins etc with a torch. And started again at daylight with our neighbours, going over the same areas. Unlikely she would have reached the road as a couple of km away and she could barely walk and then was so slow. Even so, I drove the roads in both directions with full beam on...very quiet roads. There was a heavy frost last night and as she feels the cold even indoors, we don't think she would survive it especially as so weak! It's awful not knowing and not being able to find her. All friends have put messages out in the local area and still nothing! Both of us are devastated and blaming ourselves, for thinking she was just going to be sick again or do a wee and not going with her. Don't know what to do now and feel so helpless.

So sad to hear about your lost friend, hope you find her soon,

Ruth is there any news of Chloe coming back
have done lots more online, registered via her chip as missing and posted on various lost dog sites. We cannot find her body, and I think we know and have accepted deep down, that she is not coming back. She really was so unwell that she couldn't have gone far and, hard though it is, we think she went off to die in her own. She had a loving, (spoilt) life after the hard start when she was kept in a cage to breed puppies till 18mths. She went everywhere with us, and she has taken a bit of our hearts with her. The hardest part now is going out on our land and wondering....and going back to UK without her in April.

I can't imagine how devastated you must be. She looks like a lovely girl, no doubt she knew how much she was loved.
