Wrapping, it seems is not a option I’m told, because the different colours ( white and yellow primer) underneath will show through

I wrapped the bonnet of my last van and don't see how any thing could show thru the only thing that you need is make sure the edges are really clean I used brake cleaner over the entire area. There is utube videos to watch if you decide to have a go yourself

They don't tend to be very kind to the paintwork underneath, but if that is gone already, not got much to lose so a good suggestion.
