New awning

I’ve been waiting on a new awning for over a year now. Couldn’t get one anywhere so after a lot of mucking about used a company that came highly recommended by a few people. Problem is they are in Bournemouth England Rose awnings very nice people they ordered it direct from factory and I was to travel to them to have it fitted. But they made a balls up and it got delivered to me now this thing is 6 meters long and weighs a ton. I made contact with them last week and I think my only option is to put this on the roof rack on our long wheel base transit fix it too a five meter section of padded out ladder and take it down there and follow on with the Motorhome. I don’t want to use a courier as guaranteed it will get damaged and I’ve waited long enough for this. Nothings ever easy in my world.

We had a similar problem.
The awning waa only 4.5m
We could feed it into the motorhome via a rear window.

I was gonna have a go at fitting it but I don’t want to damage the roof or worse drop it down side of the van and there’s some electrics involved. There no way I’d get this thing inside. My mates got a large car trailer transporter I even thought about that but the vans just shy of 9m and a six meter trailer might be a bit much😁.

That's nearly a 1000 miles round trip about £700 in diesel, hope Rose are going to help with the cost lol

Sounds good Thanks for the offer Sam I’ve got a couple of wee Saturday jobs that’ll cover the extra costs involved and were trying to plan it round a mini trip down south maybe have a look along the coast and do Brighton a place I’ve never been. It’s just the extra costs in transporting the awning that I have to get my head around as big Dave says nearly 1000 miles round trip for two big vans. I’ve got a few days before I make a decision.

'Now, we've got a great big convoy ... Convoy!' as Dave Lee Travis aka 'Rubber Duck' used to sing, springs to mind, Wully :D. The misunderstanding with Rose Awnings is disappointing, to say the least. I've read several posts on various Forums re Rose Awnings and I can't recall one that was less than 'fabulous service, professional installation' in tone, so it seems you have been very unlucky

Remember, Wully,
We is headin' for bear on I-one-oh
'Bout a mile outta Shaky Town
I says, "Pig Pen, this here's the Rubber Duck"
"And I'm about to put the hammer down"

Steve

The beer's free man !😉

Is Brighton brighter now? Back in the late 70's it was a tad run down. Visited many houses when working where water was running down walls in basement flats. Deffo not places for newborn babies!

Well seemed ok last year when we were there ,a bit of modernisation at the front Victorian arches and area wanted to go into marina but prohibited

Wully, my mate recommends this company, they fitted an awning to his MH, not as long as six metre, he swears by them. Worth a call, may save you a journey.

Could the fitter from the company fly up with the fitting parts and do it by you? There will I'm sure be an Easyjet or RyanAir service from Bournemouth to Glasgow and they could stay overnight in the Van as well. Sure you have all the tools they would need to fit and any specialist ones they could bring?
got to be cheaper than driving and bit of an adventure for the fitter so he shouldn't mind :)

I have thought of that David but the awning is awkward in size and weight it’s having the right lifting equipment and the knowledge or I’d do it myself . I would rather the onus was on them for the fitting at there premises then I have a bit of comeback if it’s not right. I’m going to the Motorhome show in Glasgow next week I’ll have a shifty around the dealers that are there to see if anyone is upto the job before I head down south.👍

as far as i know rose awnings have special liftin
g gear on site so a site install is a no no, i think they have like an overhead crane set up that holds the awning at both ends so very little chance of damage to mh

I knew someone who regularly tied sections of trunking, steel and, well virtually anything long under his car and his van. :)

Have you thought of lashing it underneath? The AlKo chassis is very sturdy. :ROFLMAO:
