Purposeless Products

Thanks yorklass! I'd forgotten about melon ballers. If I want melon in roughly that shape I use a spoon in a similar manner to the Purposless Melon Baller. And a spoon rest in any material is Purposeless. What's wrong with a saucer?

Anyone got a garlic press? Admit it!

Butter curler? Come on!

Colin ???

Yep, I have a garlic press, but, I use it.

Not sure but I think I have a butter curler or it may be a zester. Either way I don't use it.

Who’s got a waffle maker in the back of a cupboard

I have a butter press ooh and a melon baller that I used to carve my pumpkin at the Halloween meet at Falkirk.

The butter press makes little pretty patterned bricks of butter, Annie?

OK. I admit I have a garlic press, though on a more positive note I no longer use it. It kind of does the job but having to clean the thing is a pain. It's a chef's knife and chopping board for me. If I'm using garlic they're in use for other other ingredients anyway.

Is that the electric type Annie? The things that do toasted sarnies with a different mould clipped in place? Were they made by Breville?
Haven't got one but my Mum did. Collected an awful lot of dust.

Got a French made and bought 'left handed' potato peeler. The funny thing is even though I am left handed, I cannot use the damned thing! I find it much easier to do it right handed if you will pardon the expression !:Shyly_Smiling_Face_

I saw an "I am 2" badge on a birthday card before, and on the back was written; not suitable for those under the age of 3.
pretty sure some mistaken logic there, or maybe just done to be ironic?

You are pardoned, teejay.

Would an omni-handed peeler work for you?
Clearly a left handed potato peeler is a Purposeless Product if a left hander uses it in the right hand.

Any other other rubbish kitchen gadgets teejay?

Colin ???

That's brilliant! As is the label on a bar of hazelnut chocolate warning 'may contain nuts'.
Thanks, Tes.

Oh plenty plenty! My OH is a kitchen, useless gadget compulsive buyer and hoarder. The more outlandish the better. We have left handed tea pots and cups! Weird looking tea diffusers hanging from small chains. Wooden made toast grips that burn when you attempt to prise hot toast stuck in the useless expensive electric toaster. Non stick oven mats that get baked on oven cooked stuff stuck to them! An oyster knife that has only ever been used as a primitive screwdriver! Hundreds of chopsticks but we don't even live in China! (Good for unblocking sinks though lol) The list is almost endless but I would be here all day attempting to recall them all. But the worst one I can think of at the moment is a pair of silicone oven mitts in the shape of crocodile heads! Bloody laughable they are. Not only do they look hideous, they burn the effin fingers don't you know if you pick something hot up!!! How useless are they?

I eat most of any fruit except the skin of kiwi (it's hairy!), the skin of citrus fruits unless it's the zest, the skin of bananas (astringent!) and I eat apples in their entirety etc. etc.
So I don't waste much. Now - do you eat kiwi fruit skin? If so do you regard it as "the best part of the fruit"?. Be honest now, Asterix!

Colin ???

Yes! I eat the whole thing, except the little woody bit on the end,the skin is the best part in terms of goodness, vitamins and all that,I believe the centre is little more than flavoured water. The skin certainly isn't the best part as far as texture but it seems such a waste to throw it out.

Nooooo, they're great. All the gunk gets stuck to them instead of the oven. Remove, replace, no oven cleaning required.

They are stained forever. Useless. There's even one company selling this crap that recommends you line them with aluminium foil!!!!!! DOH!

Just use foil for goodness sake!

That's why you bin them after a while and use a new one.
Good poundshop buy.

A 20 metre roll of foil is way way cheaper if value is important.

It must be non-stop (though obviously not non-stick), riotous fun in your kitchen, teejay!
I was laughing and wasn't even there.
BTW I reflected on your miserable wife joke of yesterday and chuckled once again. If there isn't a joke thread here on MH then I think that you should start and manage one.

OK, OK - I'll give it another try,
Do you also eat banana, citrus, melon, pineapple etc. outer, Asterix??

Surely that's supposed to be a reusable product, yorklass? Do you clean and reuse or bin and start again. If they are cleaned you may as well clean the oven in the first place. If binned it's not effectively reusable. So a Purposeless Product either way. Or am I missing something as usual?

Or preferably don't put things in the oven that make a mess. In fact don't use the oven.

BTW, teejay, thanks for changing your avatar. The previous one made me feel even stranger than I actually am. Is the new one a partial view of an image cut into stone?

Colin ???

Good idea! He he the avatar springy thingy was a bit of an eyeful. The new one is a partial smiley face drawn in the snow on the car windscreen! Couldn't get the full size pic in there. It'll do for now-quite seasonal-will find something more xmassy inabit. Good guess tho' you got the partial bit spot on!

This is the full version. Keep smilin'
