Weather Report..................

18 degrees at breakfast.. Muggy, cloudy, an hour later.
Weather forecast said no possibility of rain.

While shopping in the big town, Management decided to buy a new 3 metre parasol, because our 10 year one is falling to bits and they won't get new stocks in ,before next April..
I joked that this was bound to bring rain.

Sure enough, it's pouring down.
WHOOPEE !

Yesterday was a lovely day here in Hertfordshire - so, being a predictable sort of person, I went for a bike ride along National Cycle Route 61 to Hertford.
It's a lovely county town with lots of history to wander through.
The Norman Castle is beautiful:

....with a subterranean ice house to the left of the photo.
Hertfordshire and, to a lesser extent, the surrounding counties has a composite stone known locally as 'pudding stone'. It consists of pebbles which nature has glued together to form a rock which has the appearance and properties of concrete. I know of a huge lump in Standon, Herts but the piece on display in Hertford is of a more modest size:

Then on my return I stopped off at the wonderfully restored Wheathampstead station to pay my respects to our local hero George Bernard Shaw who used to ride his bike here from his house in Ayot St Lawrence before catching the train to London:

Finally, as if by magic, I found some wild cyclamen on the railway embankment:

Yet another memorable day on our Beautiful Island.
I'm so very, very fortunate.

Colin 🙂🙂🙂
