Today I dismantled my diesel heater to check it wasn't all bunged up with carbon. It wasn't, it was perfectly clean. Then I fired it up and it sounds like Concorde until it has reached temperature, then it goes all quiet.

Within about ten minutes it was so hot inside I had to turn it off.
Perhaps I should add that the jet engine is only audible outside. Inside all is calm and tranquil. No, it's not really a jet engine, one of those ticks over at 20,000rpm. This is more like a groundsman's grass cutter. Anyway I associate the sound with warmth so that's fine by me.
